Old timer of computer crap here, personally I'd look at how many hours of my life it has already wasted, and proceed to wiping the disk clean and reinstalling Windows afresh.
Probably not the cause, but maybe it is, be it an OS problem, or a virus hidden somewhere, if it's either Windows or a virus, it's gone now. Then, process of elimination. - If you're to reinstall windows, I'm getting the impression you don't have an SSD drive yet? Get that new disk, reinstall onto that. Unless you *need* to find who is the culprit, and make a first reinstallation on the same old disk, and see if the problem is still present, or not. Otherwise, if you're OK with never being sure, install to an SSD asap. Still getting it? Next step. - If you're to buy hardware, maybe a second RAM bar would help, and before placing the second bar, replace the first with the new one and see if the problem is gone. Still getting it? Well, fuck me, I gave wrong advice and made you spend money Edit: I know it *sounds* excessively long to do, but, again, look at what you're having, HOURS LOST EVERY DAY. In comparison, what I suggest would only represent a fraction of that time. |

i reinstalled windows a few times back on a prior PC, and it was always a nail-biting experiece. as in, "will anything ever boot again?!" i only did it out of necessity, once the PC seemingly went dead on me. it's the diff betw performing open-heart on someone already unconscious vs someone still awake mid-coronary. |

Type "msconfig" in Search, no quotes, and see what starts on boot up, disable stuff one at a time. Leave the Microsoft stuff alone though and anything you know is safe.
