Help needed with strange mp4 files
I regularly download files, MVK, MP4, and AVI are the most common ones.
But there is also a very strange MP4 file that I occasionally download that will not play on any of my media players connected to my TV. And I have tried four media players, all of them cannot play these odd MP4 files. Even on my desktop computer I have tried all the popular video player sofware. They play but the video isn't smooth. It's often jerky, or in slow motion or it freezes. I have tried countless video converters but none can convert this type of MP4 file. Why does it behave in such a manner? Very strange. Help needed and if you have had similar problems please let me know. Cheers. |

First - is it possible the files giving you problems are just corrupt?
Second - if you want tech help, you'll have to give a lot more detail e.g. Media players you've tried. Details about your system. Also some in depth detail about the problem files. Ideally you would download the app MediaInfo. It's free to download and use. When installed you can get detaild information about any file by right clicking the file in Explorer. You will notice a MediaInfo option has now been added to the context menu. Click on that and you will get a window full of information that looks like this; Notice you can save the information as a text file. Then copy and paste the information back in this thread. That would give us some chance of finding where the problem might be. |

MP4, just like the other file types you mentioned, is just a container format. Whether they play or not on your media players depends on the codec being used, e.g. most media players don't support older codecs like h263, mp42, WMV8 and earlier. It's also possible that they are not atually MP4 files, but someone just changed the extension to MP4.
As suggested by Pad, MediaInfo should get the required info to help you. |
