r00 files
I know how to join the .001 .002 .003 type split files.
I know how to join the split .RAR files. But what about this mess of 40+ files with .r00, .r01, .r02, .r03 etc etc plus its own .RAR file...and an .SFV?! The tutorial here mentions it in passing, stating only [loosely] "...not recommended to create such files, as they can't be joined by the usual suspects (HJ)..." A little late for THAT! If it's been used to split everything up, how do I UNuse it?! |

the .r00, .r01, etc are just a different way of splitting .rar files.
Make sure all those files are in the same folder, then extract the one ending in .rar and it should automatically join all those other parts (the sfv is for checking for corrupt files). |

OK, I actually stumbled upon that myself. I mean, I didn't know what to do with any of it, but when I had a "peek" inside the RAR file using "Explore", it dragged in the dozens and dozens of r00, r01, etc files with it.
Alas, it compiled them all and booted VLC w/o leaving a COPY of the result anywhere, but with a little cut/paste trickery, I finally figued out how to do that. (if not the INTENDED way). Now, however, I am stumped by "-a.avi"/"-b.avi"/"-c.avi" files. I know there are video editors out there which can join anything (using avidemux these days), but the fact that these have sequential filenames indicates to me something obvious was used to break them apart. Not seeing it in the FAQ. And what about "CD1","CD2" files? I figured they were just more or less kept seperate, but then I DL something where there isn't even a SCENE BREAK between them! In fact, I'm having a hard time believing a real-world, commercial, porno vid would be made like this. Do people take 1.5G files and arbitrarily label them "CD1"/"CD2" after splitting by hand? Otherwise it doesn't make sense. PS: And just what do I do with that SFV file?! |

assuming that your file came out okay, you can just delete all that
other stuff, including the .sfv file, it's really only there for repair, if need be. .a, .b, .c files can be thought of as being analogous to .001, .002, .003 I recommend the program, FFSJ (free and doesn't require an install), to join them. It will also do .001, .002, etc, so you can use it in place of hjsplit (if that's what you were already using). The CD1, CD2 could mean a few things. It may be, if it is older content, that the person splitting it intended for it to be VCD (video CD), which was popular back when DVD (and good computers/connectivity) was not so widespread. The .rar split into a lot of pieces may also be a hold-over from older content: with slower connections, if you got a corrupt file you'd want to download as little as possible to fix it, whereas these days people probably don't think twice about re-downloading a hundred MB or so. |

The r00 etc files are the old way multi part rar files used to be named. This has been changed to the partxxx.rar you'll normally see. So the rxx files have most probably been created with a pretty old version of the program (although the current version still supports this way of numbering the parts).

What's worse is that the one vid I'm looking at now has things broken down into: filename-a.avi.001 filename-a.avi.002 filename-b.avi.001 filename-b.avi.002 filename-c.avi So first you need to use HJsplit (or w/e) just to GET to the point of -a/-b/-c! I am at a total loss. Why didn't he just do filename.avi.001 thru .005 in the first place? On top of which, these files are just under 100M (98M, 98M, 98M, 98M, 61M). Isn't the limit on RS 200M?! Anyway, beggars can't be choosers, so I am grateful it's available in any form. But I do like the "include directions" suggestion up there! PS: I assume the "file came out okay", but I'd still like to give SFV a try. Any particular app I should be using? I've DLed QuickSFV for a start. Ditto the "NFO" file. I can kinda, sorta, almost, half-see it via notepad (or wordpad, I forget), but it's obviously intended for something else. Blind DL yields NFO Viewer and NFO Creator on this one. |

Some websites only offer their videos split into smaller parts, so that's probably why there's still 3 seperate files for this one clip.

Well, FFSJ was no go. I mean, it added "_a"/"_b"/"_c" to the ".001"/".002"/".003" options, but seeing as these files are "-a.avi"/"-b.avi"/"-c.avi" it doesn't recognize them.
I tried fudging the names by hand, but that didn't work. Apparently the name is recorded somewhere during the "split" process, so it can see that "-a.avi" is not really "_a", even if I say so. Next! ----- BTW, why do those .r00 .r01 .r02 files display as "WinRAR Archive" only up to 29? From that point on, XP actually calls them filetype "R30 File", "R31 File", "R32 File". |
