^^^^^^^^^ Nicely stated lol, I have a tiny bit of a mean streak or so I've been told, but am a sweetheart most of the time or so I've been told lol.

We are getting ready for UFC 240 which is here in Edmonton next weekend at Roger's Place. The co main event is Canada's own Felicia Spencer from Montreal Quebec fighting out of Orlando Florida. She is 7-0-0 after making short work out of Megan Anderson who tapped out in the middle of round 1 recently. The men have a good match as well, here is the tale of the tape ...

One woman's professional battle against systemic gender bias in the Marines and the lessons it holds for all of us.The Marine Corps continues to be the only service where men and women train separately in boot camp or basic training. This segregation negatively affects interaction with male marines later on, and, lower expectations of female recruits are actively maintained and encouraged. But Lieutenant Colonel Kate Germano arrived at the Fourth Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island--which exclusively trains female recruits--convinced that if she expected more of the women just coming into Corps, she could raise historically low standards for female performance and make women better Marines. And, after one year, shooting qualifications of the women under her command equaled those of men, injuries had decreased, and unit morale had noticeably improved. Then the Marines fired her. This is the story of Germano's struggle to achieve equality of performance and opportunity for female Marines against an entrenched male-dominated status quo. It is also a universal tale of the effects of systemic gender bias. Germano charges that the men above her in the chain of command were too invested in perpetuating the subordinate role of women in the Corps to allow her to prove that the female Marine can be equal to her male counterpart. She notes that the Marine Corps' $35-million gender-integration study, which shows that all-male squads perform at a higher level than mixed male-female squads, flies in the face of the results she demonstrated with the all-female Fourth Battalion and raises questions about the Marine Corps' willingness to let women succeed. At a time when women are fighting sexism and systemic bias in many sectors of society, Germano's experience has wide-ranging implications and lessons--not just for the military but also for corporate America, the labor force, education, and government.

Review

“A brave and important book.”*
**
—Janet Reitman, contributing editor,Rolling Stone

"A unique, powerful story of sexism and gender bias that will resonate with women across industries and experiences. A no-holds-barred condemnation of discriminatory training policies within the Marines and of systemic sexism facing women everywhere."*

—*Kirkus Reviews*

“This passionate and raw account resonates with the Me Too and Time’s Up movements and is a powerful story of one woman’s perseverance.”*

—*Booklist*

“A deeply personal, fully heartfelt, and powerfully written indictment of the policy of the US Marine Corps on training women for war. Lt. Col. Germano lays out the story of her journey from topflight Marine officer and battalion commander to being fired over differing visions for training female Marines at Parris Island. In the midst of the debate over women in combat roles and, indeed, in the post–Harvey Weinstein world, this is a must-read to see Germano’s articulate and compelling side of the story.”*

—Adm. James Stavridis, US Navy (ret.), Supreme Allied Commander at NATO 2009–2013,*and *chief international security analyst for NBC News* ***

“This*firsthand account of institutionalized gender bias provides a call to action for the military and society. Kate Germano’s courageous narrative exposes the truth about the longstanding myth that women can’t fight. Compelling and powerful, her insider perspective on how women are trained to be Marines reinforces scientific evidence supporting gender-integrated military training.”*

—David G. Smith, PhD, associate professor, US Naval War College, and coauthor,Athena Rising: How and Why Men Should Mentor Women*

“Lt. Col. Germano delivers a detailed account of the deficiencies of separate-and-unequal training at Parris Island, leveling her guns at a legacy of second-class treatment for women in the Marine Corps. Her brave battle against anachronistic traditions in the sea service could benefit all Marines, if war-fighters of both sexes are encouraged to reach their full potential.”*

—Gretel C. Kovach, war reporter (ret.)*

“A funny and heart-wrenching explanation of how gender bias works in the Marine Corps.**Fight Like a Girl*makes clear that for all of*the Corps’ courage in fighting our nation’s wars, there is at least one thing many Marines still fear: strong women.”*

*—Col. Aaron B. O’Connell,*US Marine Corps, associate professor of history, the University of Texas at Austin*

“A thought-provoking look into the Marines Corps’ views and training programs for females. The generals in the Marines didn’t want to hear and didn’t ask how Germano raised women’s qualification rates from 67–78 percent to 92 percent. They just wanted females to fail. Read why women Marines are inspired by Germano and want her to continue her fight.”*

—Beth Brykman, author of*The Best of Both Worlds: How Mothers Can Find Full-Time Satisfaction in Part-Time Work

“Our society would do well to take heed of Kate Germano’s story. Fortunately, she has laid it out in**Fight Like a Girl, a deeply personal memoir. The next generation that wears the uniform owes her a debt of gratitude. Read this book and you’ll understand why.”*

—Elliot Ackerman, author of**Dark at the Crossing

“Inspiring, fresh, and highly relevant, as women continue their fight for parity. Germano’s tenacity, courage, and leadership are everything I*would expect from a Marine and a woman. She is a true firestarter.”*

—Kathy Palokoff, coauthor,*Firestarters: How Innovators, Instigators, and Initiators Can Inspire You to Ignite Your Own Life*

“Charges of sexism in the military have provoked an ongoing debate for years, and especially since the admission of women into combat roles. Training women for the US Marine Corps, long associated with hypermasculinity, presents a highly charged test case. Germano tells of her own fight against low expectations for women in the Corps . . . . Her story is colorfully told, with contrasting accounts of dedication, triumph, humor, and deep frustration. Her book is a must-read for anyone who wishes to understand Marine culture.”*

—David R. Contosta, author,*America’s Needless Wars

It was ugly in the octagon last night as Brazilian Cris Cyborb gets the decision over Canadian Felicia Spencer after 3 rounds solved nothing other than painting the mat red with blood. That was Spencer's first loss after an impressive submission in her last fight, oh well back to the drawing board for her. Cyborg needed that win after kissing to Amanda Nunes last December. That was Cyborg's last right under her UFC contract so some big decisions will have 5o be made on the coming weeks. This win ups her chances of a rematch with Nunes who took her belt in that last fight

Personally I saw a split decision and not necessarily a UD but a split won't get you on the contenders list, a UD will ... Dana White is a bald Don King and it was a foregone conclusion that if Soencer didn't knock Cyborb out the decision would go to Cyborg because it gives Dana White leverage in contract negotiations and can 7se the rematch as a bargaining chip, that is the slug that he is. If my man were there last night security would have had to pull them apart again.

Hot Tweets: With the UFC finally out of the picture, where should Cris Cyborg go next?

18

By*Jed Meshew@JedKMeshew**Aug 3, 2019, 10:30am EDT

In case you missed it,*Cris Cyborg officially became a free agent yesterday. After beating*Felicia Spencer*at*UFC 240, Cyborg’s contract with the UFC was up and amid the increasingly acrimonious feud, UFC president*Dana White*said he*would be releasing the former featherweight champion*from the matching period because they no longer wanted to re-sign her to the UFC. So let’s talk about Cyborg plus a bit of UFC history and a lot more.

Where does Cris Cyborg go next?

Who should Cyborg sign with if Bellator, PFL, and ONE all offered her the same deal?

The real answer is “it depends on the terms of the deal,” but let’s play this out.

ONE is immediately off the table. Yes, ONE Championship in an emerging product that has recently poached a number of high-end UFC former champions with an eye towards building a regional-based promotion that still rivals the UFC but they lack any kind of weight division even close to 145 pounds and there’s still a cap to how much that partnership would grow her brand.

PFL is at least a little interesting. Their big incentive is the presence of a dedicated women’s lightweight division/tournament structure with a $1M prize payout and a marketable fight against*Kayla Harrison*down the line. Plus, PFL is still paired up with ESPN so that keeps Cyborg’s profile extremely high, especially as she would instantly become a focal point for them.

But Bellator has the most bells and whistles to throw at her. Firstly, Bellator offers Cyborg a chance to reconnect with*Scott Coker, who she flourished with in Strikeforce, and given how things went with Dana White, Cyborg seems highly interested and working for a boss who treats her well. Coker has always been more fighter-friendly than White, and along those lines, Bellator offers Cyborg the opportunity to once again be the focal point of a major promotion instead of a slightly more important cog in a machine. Perhaps most interesting though is the presence of an actual featherweight division in Bellator, something the UFC never put any effort towards developing even when they finally conceded and made the division for Cyborg. Oh, and Bellator’s willingness to cross-promote with Rizin is another cherry on top, boosting Cyborg’s international profile even more.

All things considered, unless someone opens up the checkbook, I just don’t see how Cyborg lands anywhere but Bellator.

Bellator came about as a fuck you to UFC and Dana White but the Viacom owned company isn't making the splash they wanted but is putting a dent in it ...

If someone dropped me on my head 42 seconds into a match I would take her seriously too ..

Dana White declares women’s strawweight is shook: ‘Nobody wanted to fight Weili Zhang’

12

After getting ducked by top contenders at 115 pounds, all roads now lead through Chinese champ Weili Zhang.

By*Ryan Harkness**Sep 1, 2019, 11:22am EDT

Okay, so new UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang probably isn’t going to be fighting Henry Cejudo*now that we know her terms.*So which top 115 pound contender will the first Chinese champion face next? That’s a question Dana White left hanging when asked following her powerful 42 second knockout win at UFC Shenzhen*(watch the highlights here).

“I don’t know if they’re all taking time off right now,” White said at the*post-fight press conference.*“Rose [Namajunas] is definitely taking time off. I mean, Rose got slammed on her head and wanted to take some time off after that, which is understandable. The other girls are all fighting. There’s other fights happening right now. And as they play out it will determine what’s next for Weili. And Weili told me tonight that she wants to fight as much as possible, which I love.”

#2 ranked Tatiana Suarez is currently nursing a neck injury, but we’d happily accept the winner of the Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson showdown in Tampa on October 12. There’s also Nina Ansaroff ranked quietly at #3 if the UFC is desperate for a quick turnaround.

White also admitted he had a hard time securing highly ranked opponents for Zhang, a big reason why she got leapfrogged into a title opportunity so quickly.

Twitter Reacts To Zhang’s Historic Win At UFC ShenzhenWhite Discusses Zhang Vs. Rousey ComparisonsHighlights! Zhang Shocks Andrade, Scores 42-Second Finish

”I can tell you this: going into this fight with Jessica Andrade, nobody wanted to fight Weili Zhang. Nobody wanted to fight her. Now she’s the champion, so if you want a shot at that belt, you have to fight her.”

As if ducking Zhang wasn’t bad enough, these fighters also had the gall to pick Andrade over her leading into UFC Shenzhen! We suppose that isn’t so surprising considering “Magnum” wasn’t even ranked at the start of 2019 and jumped up to #6 on the strength of a decision win over Tecia Torres.

“It’s funny because I asked a lot of fighters what they thought about this fight,” White told the press. “Everybody thought that Jessica was too strong for Weili and there were too many unanswered questions about Weili. Which is true!”

“If you’ve seen her fight, you can tell she’s well rounded, she’s super talented. But how’s she gonna deal with the pressure of fighting for the title for the first time in her home country, all of her people here, and a lot of other variables that play into a fight. She looked like a world champion tonight. She looked like one of the most vicious women on planet Earth tonight.

“She looked incredible!”

I'm going to reiterate my disgust for that chauvinistic, degrading and masochistic thread about spanking women in the name of sport. It has no business on PS and condones violence against women.

Total Divas season 9 kicked off on October 1st and new addition Ronda Rousey may have actually hurt ratings more than helped. This is a PR epic fail and as much as women deserve the spotlight she isn't the best role model... lots of T & A in general though.
