![]() Yeah, they COULD cut him. They COULD cut anyone they want to.
![]() He'll turn 29 just before training camp starts. He's still in his prime and is still at a reasonable salary level at $6.7M. That's not a lot for a #1 or #2 WR. We'll see the middle of March who stays, who goes and who get's restructured.

![]() got a gut feeling that Kansas City gets Alex Smith for something like a 4th rounder, then drafts Joeckel (sp)

![]() The 49ers organization continues to look like geniuses. Goodbye Alex Smith.

Kap is alright but I worry that we are trading the wrong guy. I know the majority of fans are all on the bandwagon, but I've always liked Alex and wonder if things wouldn't have been different this year, had he not gotten hurt and Kap came in. I'd have been more confident had he been playing in the SB. |

![]() I liked Smith also and I hope he has the success he deserves in KC. He did have a poise and wisdom that Kappy still needs to learn but at the mid point of last season Kappy was the overall better QB. I don't know what I would have done if I were in Harbaughs shoes.
Smith had to deal with a lot of crap over the years including the disaster of Mike (I want Winners) Singletary going before the press and saying that he needs to see courage in his QB. Also having Jimmy Raye, the absolute worst offensive coordinator calling his plays. He always faced the press after each and every game only to be picked apart by the same bunch of fatso hack reporters. Good Luck Alex |

![]() I have no ill feelings towards Alex. He played very well the past year and a half. It sucks how it all went down, but unfortunately that's the nature of the NFL and I bet Alex does the same thing that Harbaugh did if he was in his shoes, which is give the team the best chance to win. Alex least he's going to a team that is going to embrace him as their quarterback for the next couple of seasons at least. I wouldn't have given up a 2nd round pick plus a potentially additional second, but for Alex that's irrelevant. It will be interesting to see how he performs.

KC also has Alex Tanney that they are developing. Big, strong arm and very accurate...just very raw coming from a small Div II school. Andy Reid could very well be bringing in Alex just long enough to develop Tanney. I also wouldn't be surprised if they draft a QB in the 3rd round or later to develop. At least Alex is used to it and handles it pretty well. Reid is a players coach so he'll use lots of lube. ![]()

![]() Oh, in other news, the Cowboys restructured DeMarcus Ware's contract for a $4M cap savings. There goes 20% of the amount they were over the cap in one fell swoop.
![]() ![]() Restructure Carr's contract and sign Romo to a Brady type contract and they'll be under the cap. They still have several other players that have contracts ripe for restructuring. OT Doug Free will likely be asked to take a pay cut as well. Cutting him completely wouldn't save much, but it would open the door for Jeremy Parnell (split time last season, played well and is cheap) or a draftee (really cheap). Add in the rumor that the salary cap may be going up an extra $2.4M than what teams were told to expect and life is getting rosier. ![]() Edit: And just like that, the Cowboys are under the cap. Players cut = 0. Players extended = 0. Players restructured = 4(Carr -$11M, Ware -$4M, Austin -$4M, Witten -$3.6M). They're also restructuring several more contracts (Ratliff, Bernadeau, Livings and Cook). And they haven't even extended Romo yet (will be huge cap savings). Why? Well, they resigned their Longsnapper specialist, Ladouceur, to a 5 year deal. He hasn't had a bad snap in his 9 year career. They may also be building up enough space to re-sign Spencer or go after a couple free agents. Restructuring Austin and Ratliff's contracts also mean they're highly unlikely to be cut or traded. Jury is still out on Free and Connor's status. They could still take pay cuts or be cut outright. Not bad for one days work. ![]()

![]() yea, with all these contract reconstructions, wont they be against the cap more in the next 2-3 years?
Anyway as a Rams fan, i hope Steven Jackson gets a gig somewhere, been a massive fan of his, he deserves to be on a winning team |
