Re. the last few posts, I don't disagree... just going to play Devil's advocate, while opining from my POV.
I'm not crazy about some music-related threads (discussion, YouTube videos, et. al.) not being in Music, but that wasn't my call. I'm guessing, as far as discussions go, it would get more exposure if the discussions were all grouped together under the same umbrella. There's no right or wrong, just shades of Grey. I'm fairly sure admins keep an eye on it, and might be open to moving things around at some point down the road, but there are moving parts on both sides of the pro/con thing. The only direct experience I can cite is in Music. Years ago, I/we (section mods) noticed a slight uptick in posts in Music threads of the comment variety, so we (wildwest08 & I, primarily) suggested a separate thread for discussion, to keep the artist threads clear for music releases only. The result? People stopped discussing music! So eventually, it was moved to Entertainment Discussion, probably being seen as a better fit, as well as being more germane to "discussions", as a whole, and in the process, hopefully exposing it to a wider audience and re-stimulating activity in the thread. There's no rule book as to how to build a forum; the owners/admins do it as they go, and for the most part, they do a pretty damn good job. So if there's consensus about a thread needing to be moved, or a subsection needing to be created, it's not to make things inconvenient for its members. It's done to improve the customer experience, so to speak. One thing to remember that there is a method to the madness... in a grocery store, do you think it's coincidental that Milk is all the way in the back of the store? And that "impulse buys", like candy bars and batteries are at the registers for a reason? Not to say that PS is about maximizing profits like grocery stores are, but there is a basic template for board creation, optimizing traffic flow (not terribly unlike a village or city) and when a board becomes as large (and popular) as PS, sometimes creation and shuffling veer into virgin territory, where staff uses its best judgment in placement of things. And sometimes we get it wrong, but it's not from a lack of caring. Every board is different, and although there may be a basic template for infrastructure, at some point, growth dictates change, adapting to one's environment. This is why this thread exists... for your constructive and valued feedback... we may not necessarily be the smartest guys in the room, so keep the ideas coming... |

Personally, I have absolutely no issue with splitting Entertainment discussion into it's own category away from GD. All members have total access to participation in either section and are welcome to participate and post there depending on what they subject they want to make a post about. I visit and check a number of different sections at this and other forums daily and participate in those sections when my life is not completely off the wall like it currently is and I don't find it to be a problem for me. If you want to increase activity in either section, then please feel free to post there and contribute to in either section. I would welcome more activity in either section to be honest if everyone would just decide to participate.

He is based in Texas, but emigrated from Italy while still a boy: his home in Rome was less than a couple of miles than the home I grew up in.

I also wish him the best. I rarely agreed with his world views but he was respectful and was a prolific contributor. However, he seemed to take residence in the PlanetSuzy Doghouse quite often so to see it insinuated that he got booted does not surprise me. |

I know this all of this is absolute fact, so please do us a big favor and stop assuming anything about any member of this forum unless you know all of the facts. All this does is to create an impression with other members that all staff here just go ahead and penalize or ban them just for the hell of it because this not the case at all. This is also not the time to try to upset anyone, whether they are staff or just a member here because you should assume that everyone might have a very short fuse here with the current situation in the entire world right now.

I would change the quite restrictive wait time between searches. Often times if I search for something and get no results, I'll want to search again right away for a very similar term, but I'll get the "the forum requires you wait 15 seconds between searches" and it seems unnecessary. I mean, we have accounts here - it should at least be removed for logged-in users.
