For this kind of work I use a Debian install within a VM, so if things get compromised I can just wipe it without any real issues.

Yeh.
Good news: it is noticeably faster. A lot faster. New features and options. Nice.

Bad news: some of your old apps stop working (still looking for a decent batch re-namer). Older themes don't work anymore, or may cause problems.

Really bad news: there seems to be a memory leak in Nemo. Slows the system down a lot after a while. Doesn't affect everyone, but it hurts like hell if you are one of the unlucky ones (hello!). I find if I'm doing a lot of renaming or moving everything grinds to a halt after about half an hour, and Nemo needs rebooting. There don't seem to be a lot of us affected by this little bug, which may be why the admin response in the forums is somewhat underwhelming.

Apart from that little problem, it's a nice and polished release. Many improvements to the interface and built in apps (especially to the updates and the software manager). There's even a Spices update applet ('bout time!) Only a few apps have died, and replacements are (mostly) easy to find.

Recommended.
