You are right about the pollution from paper manufacturing. You certainly do not want to stick your hands in the waste water produced. |

The world's largest iceberg has started drifting away
TORONTO -- The biggest iceberg on the planet is making its way out into the Southern Ocean. Satellite images show “A68” steadily floating away from Antarctica. The visuals, released by satellite imagery company Polar View, detail the iceberg’s journey between January 2019 and January 2020: The 6,000 km² chunk of ice broke off from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in 2017. It stayed relatively stationary for a couple of years, but really started to travel last summer. A68 is about the size of Prince Edward Island, and is currently the world’s largest iceberg. It’s not quite as big as B15, however, which had an area of 11,000 km² when it broke off from the*Ross Ice Shelf 2000. B15 has since broken up into smaller icebergs. A68 so far has maintained most of its size since setting sail, but researchers expect it to diminish once it hits the open ocean. Here’s imagery from the European Union Earth Observation Programme showing it breaking off: Click image to play |

Guernsey Dad Accidentally Orders Six-Metre-Long Dinosaur For Son
Code:
LTL://unilad.co.uk/life/guernsey-dad-accidentally-orders-six-metre-long-dinosaur-for-son/ Guernsey is turning into Isla Nublar after one dad’s purchase: a full-size dinosaur, dropped into his garden by crane. Andre Bisson’s four-year-old son, Theo, is obsessed with dinosaurs. After watching Disney’s animated classic, Dinosaur, he was particularly found of the Carnotaurus species (Carnotaur for short). For months, he’d been saying: ‘Daddy, I want the biggest Carnotaur you’ve ever seen.’ Well, Andre delivered, unwittingly shipping in a six-metre, full-size dino – and it’s amazing. Meet Chaz, Guernsey’s newest prehistoric resident, ‘nestled nicely into palm trees and enjoying west coast salt air living’, Andre told UNILAD. His initial attempts at finding a large Carnotaur for his son weren’t particularly fruitful. In a BBC Sounds interview, the dino dad explained that Theo’s mum led the way, sending him a link to Jersey’s Tamba Park on the neighbouring island, which just so happened to be selling off its dinosaurs. ‘No way, I have to have this,’ he said. I phoned them straight away and I was lucky enough because they were inundated, and managed to secure him. I thought: ‘This’ll be the biggest dinosaur you’ll ever see.’ So he’s a full size, teenage dinosaur in age. When I looked on the website, I thought it was about three metres long and it’d fit nicely next to the hot tub and it’d be quite fun. It wasn’t until the boys from Channel Seaways – who did an epic job trying to get him from Jersey – told me it wouldn’t fit in their truck that I thought, ‘Wow, it must be about six metres.’ Then I knew he wouldn’t fit anywhere apart from my very small garden.

^^^^^ I think dad is over compensating...
Pretty cool gift though, why not go for a T- rex while he was at it afterall that Carnotaurus is basically a "snowflake" t-tex wannabe lol. |

Shit like this makes me see red... moderator overreach and incompetence everywhere is out of control!!!
She raised over $26K for Australian wildfire aid. But suddenly the sum raised on GoFundMe fell to $0 'I literally felt sick,' says fundraiser who watched donations leave the account before her eyes Clare Hennig, Joel Ballard CBC News Posted: Feb 12, 2020 5:00 AM PT | Last Updated: 4 hours ago Zoey Cotton's fundraiser for wildfire aid efforts in Australia had been going exceptionally well. She and her organizing team had raised more than $20,000 from a silent auction, while their GoFundMe campaign, Whistler Helps Australia, was quickly attracting donations.* But when she checked the GoFundMe page on Feb. 5, she watched as the balance dropped from $26,401 to $0. All the money — raised over the course of a month —*had been refunded back to the*donors and the donation page was locked. "I literally felt sick," says Cotton. "It was probably one of the most stressful days of my life." GoFundMe is an online crowdfunding tool*that allows people to donate to various causes.* Cotton says she immediately reached out to GoFundMe to find out what had happened, but the company was slow to respond and, when it did, the*responses were unhelpful. 'Make Whistler Great Again': Petition targeting Vail Resorts management of B.C. ski hill gets traction online Nearly a week later, the account was still*blocked and Cotton — along with co-organizers Simon Stribling and*Deborah Bordignon — hadn't*been able to contact*the*donors to explain what happened because all the contact information was*stored on the GoFundMe platform. GoFundMe*unblocked the fundraising page on Tuesday afternoon, but the balance remained at $0.* Stribling says he feels like he has*let down the entire*Whistler community.* "I feel like I'm walking around the community with my tail between my legs. I'm ashamed," says Stribling, who is from Australia. GoFundMe*responds In a response to CBC News, GoFundMe said the money was returned to donors because Cotton had failed to verify the*email address associated with her*account. GoFundMe and its online payment partner,*WePay, require email verification within 30 days. "Ahead of the refund, the campaign organizer received reminders to confirm their account from our payment processor," said GoFundMe. But Cotton denies this, saying she received no emails from WePay and only has two GoFundMe emails in her inbox regarding a different matter. CBC News has asked GoFundMe for verification that it sent the warning emails but hasn't yet received a response. GoFundMe has said it intends to help Cotton contact*the donors and post a message*explaining what happened. Many of the donations came from family and friends in Whistler, says Stribling, so he is hopeful that people will re-pledge, but Cotton fears it's too late and the fundraiser has lost its momentum. "It's not in the moment anymore. People quickly forget about these disasters when things calm down," says Cotton. "My concern is we will definitely have lost some [donations]." She also fears that potential donors will have lost*faith in GoFundMe,*as she has. Instead of helping to fix the problem, Cotton feels GoFundMe has avoided the issue and placed the blame on the organizers. The money from the fundraiser was going to be split between Wildlife Victoria and Vinnies, two charities benefiting those affected by the Australia wildfires. * |

'Reaper of death': scientists discover new dinosaur species related to T rex Species is thought to be the oldest member of the T rex family yet discovered in northern North America Mon 10 Feb 2020 22.20 GMTLast modified on Tue 11 Feb 2020 09.59 GMT Scientists in Canada have announced the discovery of a new species of dinosaur closely related to Tyrannosaurus rex that strode the plain of North America about 80m years ago. Thanatotheristes degrootorum – Greek for “reaper of death” – is thought to be the oldest member of the T rex family yet discovered in northern North America, and would have grown to around 8m (26ft) in length. “We chose a name that embodies what this tyrannosaur was as the only known large apex predator of its time in Canada, the reaper of death,” said Darla Zelenitsky, assistant professor of dinosaur palaeobiology at Canada’s University of Calgary. “The nickname has come to be Thanatos,” she told AFP. Whereas T rex – the most famous of all*dinosaur*species – stalked its prey about 66m years ago, Thanatos dates back at least 79m years, the team said. The specimen was discovered by Jared Voris, a PhD student at Calgary, and is the first new tyrannosaur species found for 50 years in Canada. “There are very few species of tyrannosaurids, relatively speaking,” said Zelenitsky, co-author of the study that appeared in the journal Cretaceous Research. “Because of the nature of the food chain these large apex predators were rare compared to herbivorous or plant-eating dinosaurs.” The study found that Thanatos had a long, deep snout, similar to more primitive tyrannosaurs that lived in the southern US. The researchers suggested that the difference in tyrannosaur skull shapes between regions could have been down to differences in diet, and dependent on the prey available at the time. |

Funny thing is it's a Crown Corporation but not even the government is off limits to them. There are a few comedy shows that lampoon everything and anything Canadian and if you ever get a chance to watch The Rick Mercer Report and especially his "rant" segment which is legendary here, it's a real eye opener... |

CBC rocks, and has always rocked.
I mean, who would have though of showing Bob Dylan performing to lumberjacks in a log cabin...?

^^^^^ That was actually a major coup for Daryl Duke to get Dylan since his career was already in high gear by 1964. That video you posted was actually the final episode of Quest.
That show gave CBC brass fits and the Parliament got their knickers in a twist over some content. One of the favorite words to describe it was "immoral" and another was "corrupt". Ah the good old days lol. Gordon Lightfoot got his start on CBC as well but not as a singer but as a dancer on a country music show... A ton of worldwide talent over the years owe their career to CBC PLUS they have this. |
