before this season I don't think there are many fans that Didn't think Joe was a franchise Qb.all he did/does was win games.

Blah. Hopefully San Francisco can get to another one in the next three to five years. Unfortunately Gore probably won't be with the team at that point. Weird. I feel like his Hall of Fame chances went down the drain with that loss.

They get predictable with their schemes and how they use certain players. It was the same way with Wade Phillips in Dallas (very good success at first, predictable towards the end) and now he's doing the same thing in Houston. Fangio might suffer from the same problem.

That's one of the few good things about the salary cap though. Personnel don't stay stagnant very long. Before long, they will have to rebuild that defense due to age and salary cap. New personnel, new schemes on how to use the new personnel and maybe a little less predictability until they've been together and gelled a bit. Then rinse and repeat.

They are already going to have to replace Justin Smith sooner rather than later. Not having him at 100% really hurt their pass rush. It also affected Aldon Smith. I really didn't see Aldon bring the pressure that he usually does when Justin is healthy. At 33, Justin won't last much longer. Especially if he keeps tearing muscles (more common the older you get).

Dashon Goldson, Isaac Sopoaga, Ricky Jean-Francois are all Free Agents. Not bad, but do need to resign or upgrade at those positions. Sopoaga is 31 so they should be able to get him back at a decent deal. How good is Ian Williams behind him? Goldson might be a bit expensive to keep. Gonna have to replace backup OLB Clark Haggins (36) pretty soon too.

Overall, they're not as bad off as most teams. Just a few tweaks here and there and they should still be a very good defense.

No he isn't a rookie. He's a second year player. But this was just his 10th NFL start. I think he played pretty well for the most part and made a lot of plays in the second half. The one really bad throw he had was on a pass that sailed over Moss and into the hands of Ed Reed (although Moss could have made a better effort for the ball and at least jump for it).

Sopoaga should resign for a decent amount, and Ricky Jean is just a back up.
He's shown me nothing that's impressed me. Decent run-stopper. Poor pass rusher.

Goldson is the one I'm worried about.
We can either franchise him at 7 mil or so, or sign him to a huge multi-year deal,
and I'm not crazy about either idea.
Kap, Crabtree, Rogers and a few others are coming up in the next couple of years
and we are going to need the extra money.
I think Goldson's a great player, but not at a "break the bank" salary number.

We need an upgrade at cornerback. We need to find someone to replace Terrell (sp?) Brown,
and put Brown back as the nickel back he should be.
Culliver completely disintegrated during the season,
and I don't think I've ever seen our dime back Cox play.

Special teams should be worked on as well.
We didn't have any gunners this year that I noticed.
We could use some fresh meat at LB for depth.

WR: let Randy go, and sign a young buck in his place.
Nothing against him..I just think with Crabtree, Manningham, and Jenkins,
we should be fine at wideout.

I think Goldson has earned his payday. I mean, he's not Ronnie Lott back there, but he's decent and coverage and makes his fair share of plays. Fangio really knows how to use him and make the most out of his skills. He was franchise lasted year, and might be franchised again, but like I said I think he's earned his money.

Brown played a good game in the Super Bowl. Only allowed 29 yards and had a forced fumble and recovery. Brown has been our best corner all year actually just because of his consistency. I really don't want to see him put back in the nickel like he was back when Greg Manusky was running the show. Brown seems to play best when he gives a good amount of cushion on his receiver. I'd like someone to be more physical, but at least Brown provides good play for the style he plays. He strictly plays on the right side, but it is what it is. Culliver screwed up bad in the Super Bowl. In the first half of the season he was looking like our best corner and simply wasn't getting beat deep. The second half he was extremely inconsistent and it seemed to get worse in the playoffs. I still love him as a corner, but I think we might need to bring someone else in. Rogers I'm on the fence about. His best days might be over.

Losing Blake Costanzo and Colin Jones on special teams really screwed us up. David Akers missing a lot of game winning kicks as well. I think it might be time for David Akers to hang it up. Too bad we couldn't close out his career with a Super Bowl ring. We should at least bring in some competition in the offseason.

I want Randy Moss gone. He really didn't provide too much of a spark at all. I guess he worked okay as a decoy, but I think it's time to move on. During the Super Bowl I really didn't like his body language at all. I can't wait until Manningham gets back. We need to also see what Jenkins can do. He's really looking like a fringe player at the moment (I know he's not because of his draft status) and hasn't made the most out of the small opportunities he's had.

In regards to the draft and the offseason, what I'd really like is to shore up some more help on the defensive line. Sopoaga and Smith are both above 30 and we don't rotate very much at all. I'd like this changed. Seemed like the entire defense was gassed the second half of the season. I hope Fangio gets away from his basic scheme and shows more exotic looks. I don't want him to go all out blitz like Greg Williams every down of course. I actually like what he does relying on pressure just from the linemen and having them win their matchups for the most part to generate pressure and blitz sparingly or in certain situations. Maybe getting another OLB would be warranted too. Brooks and Aldon Smith were taking way too many snaps this year. When Paras Haralson got hurt in the offseason that really screwed the depth and we had to go after 36 year old Clark Haggans.
