Why listen to metal music ?!

This Nevergreen track changed my life, maybe forever. Too bad everyone wants metal in english. They sing hungarian and they have no chance, but they are better than 80% of metal bands.

Sounds like you had a cool mom, Nono. I grew up in a strict religious household, so heavy metal and hard rock music were not allowed. Therefore, I had to be sneaky and when I started high school (91-92) borrowed a lot of cassette tapes from friends at school. I remember borrowing G'n'R Lies and also Use Your Illusion 1 & 2. Other notable titles included Megadeth - Rust in Peace, Metallica - And Justice For All, and Skid Row - Slave to the Grind just to name a few.

Eventually, I started buying my own cassettes and the first I ever purchased (not counting Weird Al Yankovic) was Faith No More - The Real Thing. Around this time, Rush released Roll the Bones and that was my gateway into their music, eventually followed up with Rush Chronicles.

Unfortunately, around 93, I was seduced to the dark side when the whole alt rock explosion took place after Nirvana hit the scene and I mostly began listening to that style of music. In the fullness of time, I came back around to metal for good, although occasionally I still listen to some of those 90s bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, & Alice in Chains.

Do you like any of the glam/hair metal bands of the 80s & early 90s? Those are actually some of the first rock bands I listened to which began my journey to better bands like Priest, Rush, & Maiden. I still listen to a lot of them and in fact, Dokken is one of my all time favorite bands.

I enjoy metal that isn't overly dark, I also don't enjoy screaming vocals, the instrumentals can be worth checking out so that's one reason why.

I liked Nirvana too, but later, around 1996-7. I still like many of their songs. Tony Iommi said once that riffs in Nevermind would fit in a Black Sabbath album too, so if he says so
Soundgarden is great and Alice in Chains too, but I am a metal head so listen to them rare, but I can agree they made valuable music.

As for Glam, I love many. Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Lizzy Borden (must listen!!!!), etc. They are amazing. I prefer melodic metal though, like Def Leppard and Europe to glam.
I know Dokken, of course. I will be listening to them now, just to refresh memories

My grandparents were verx religious and thank to this I became an atheist
At 8-10 years old I was clever enough to ask questions they could answer only ridiculous this and thats. My parents are not that religious and they love Queen, so rock music was OK to them.
As for GnR Illusions albums....strange they were recorded the same time and actually it was random which tracks to go on part 1 and part 2, but I give part 1 7 points and part 2 10 points.

Actually Izzy Stradlin was the motor and creative genious of GnR and after his exit, GnR died (to me)
