Nah I think Donkey Long's problem with crossovers had more to do with homophobia than real facts.

Sadly, most producers don't seem to care about their performers health and wellbeing. Think of all the rapist/woman abuser mopes who continue to get work. The producers don't care. And it's also depressing that the females seem to be so blase about the risk of STDs (and working with known rapists/abusers).

Odd question, but I have to ask: why don't the laws regarding testing etc. apply to the gay and trans side of the industry?

I don't think there are any statutes requiring testing, at least in California. There are some CalOSHA requirements to film in the state, but the California Assembly voted down a condom-mandatory law that AHF advocated.

IIRC, the whole testing thing came about after a few AIDS scares in the mid-1990s. I recall Asia Carrera quit porn because of one of them, which was considered a big deal back then. There were very few crossovers back in the 80s and 90s--Peter North basically quit gay porn (as Mike Ramsey) when he saw he could make just as much in straight porn and not have to watch his fellow performers drop like flies.

Testing was a way of keeping the talent pool around to work. If straight performers stopped working, the producers wouldn't make any money

the law is test all 14 days for all performers including gay and trans side but the test can obviously easily faked. and thats the real problem.too many shady people around.

What "law?" Please refer to California state law on mandatory HIV/STD testing:

How on Earth could one segment of the biz get away with no tests? You really think the entire gay porn business is "faking it?" They don't test at all. And they have (in the past) let HIV+ performers continue working.
