Speaking of the indies, I just watched a video called "The Best of Miss April", which is basically a collection of AJ's best matches and promos from WSU and other indie promotions. Surprisingly enough, it was actually pretty good. The production quality sucked and her gimmick consisted of her constantly saying that she's going to prove herself, but she was damn cute in it and her matches were much better than expected. This girl can actually wrestle-- who would've thunk it? I've never seen her do anything exceptional in the ring in WWE. She's good as a personality and better on the eyes, but just think how good she could be if she brought that same kind of heat to the ring? She literally dominated a few of these chicks who were a lot bigger and pretty good wrestlers in their own right.
AJ was trained by Jay Lethal and had a few mixed tag team matches with him in her corner in this compilation. He really wasn't anything special in the indies. She also wrestled the only other indie chick that I cared about, Annie Social, twice on this. Annie's a good wrestler and it was cool seeing their paths cross. It's funny that I never connected the dots that they were working for the same promotion at the same time. I guess I knew Annie was in WSU in the late 2000s', but I thought she was a manager at the time. |

It's always nice to see another WSU fan, SaintsDecay. They've had some great women come & go in their past, and still put on one of the better indie products today. And it's funny that you mention the Miss April matches, as I've been watching some on dailymotion lately ... the quality sucks (nowhere near DVD quality, which is what I normally hope for in my online viewing) but it's cool to see the current-AJ in her development (no pun intended) years. I think her best work was with/against Malia Hosaka, whose such a veteran that she can make a greener wrestler look pretty good.
Also cool that you're an Annie Social fan; I'm a long-time fan of hers, originally because of her body+outfit but she grew on me as someone that's fun to watch. She had a tag team called the Beatdown Betties with another favorite of mine (Roxie Cotton) that I dug watching. Even just recently, they had a 73 minute match between the then-champ, Mercedes Martinez, and a girl that's from Boston (my hometown), Lexxus (aka Alexis Neveah) that I've been dying to find online. Of course, most of that should've been said in the indie thread, but since my tangent started on the subject of AJ Lee, I guess it's Ok. |

Hurrah! Chivalry and all that stuff, glad Wade has won although i'm slightly pissed that i've found out because while Raw has sucked lately I do still plan on watching it. Still no hard feelings, it's the day and age of breaking news. Ah great, I secretly don't like Kofi, you can't be that happy all the time, it freaks me out.
Smackdown was better than Raw btw.. much better. Although I was slightly drunk so that might of helped get me through. I even enjoyed Brodus and one of the very hyper kids at the end did a tribute to Damien Sandow, it was marvelous. Maybe it was his actual son, if he has one? Ryblack is still boring but he caught Dolph in mid-air which was rather funny. Good show. It was mostly focused on Big Show but that didn't ruin it. |

It's become clear to me that AJ never developed the crazy chick gimmick until WWE. She never really had a solid gimmick before, even as half of the tag-team champs a few times. She was really more straightforward. I like the crazy chick gimmick, though. It's just such a shame that the WWE doesn't focus on wrestling for women. They never really have. They've had destroyers like Chyna and Kharma and a few chicks like Trish Stratus and Mickie James who could kind of wrestle, but there are legitimate female wrestlers out there that could take this to the next level. And the fucked up thing is that women in the PG Era aren't even used for sex appeal anymore. They're just kind of there. Quote:

I'm probably alone , but I'm so glad WWE doesn't really focus on female wrestling since I'm gay.

It's the same thing as men's wrestling if it's done right, and most promotions don't do it right. They try too hard to make it sexy, but the truth is that it isn't sexy. So they just throw together a struggle, a little hair-pulling, and a finisher. That isn't wrestling though. Guys like Vince synthesize it down to that to strengthen the image of male dominance, being that men are the main focus demographic. There are a lot of female wrestlers who have something to prove, though, if they're given the chance.
