Toby Keith, Country Music Star Who Sang ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy,’ Dies at 62

Variety
Ellise Shafer
Feb 6, 2024

Toby Keith, the country singer who scored the genre’s most-played song of the ’90s with “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” died on Monday night of stomach cancer. He was 62.

The news was announced on Keith’s official website as well as his social media channels. “Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5, surrounded by his family,” the statement reads. “He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

In June 2022, Keith revealed that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. “I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery,” Keith wrote at the time. “So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”

Born in Clinton, Okla. on July 8, 1961, Keith started his career in music at the age of 20 by forming the Easy Money Band with his friends. In the mid-’80s, the group began playing at honky-tonks in Oklahoma and Texas, and by the ’90s Keith was husking in Nashville in hopes of getting a record deal. His big break finally came when a flight attendant gave his demo tape to Mercury Records exec Harold Shedd, who had worked with Shania Twain and Billy Ray Cyrus. Shedd signed Keith and released his 1993 debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s country songs chart. The song would go on to become the most-played country song of the decade.

The success of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” continued with Keith’s self-titled debut album, which was certified platinum and produced three more hits: “He Ain’t Worth Missing,” “A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action” and “Wish I Didn’t Know Now.”

Keith signed with Polydor Records to release his second album, “Boomtown,” in 1994. Its lead single, “Who’s That Man,” reached No. 1 on the country charts and the album was certified platinum. In 1995, Keith released his first Christmas album, “Christmas to Christmas.” Keith’s third album “Blue Moon” followed in 1996, reaching platinum status with single “Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine on You” peaking at No. 2. He returned to Mercury in 1997 and put out his fourth album “Dream Walkin’,” which scored two No. 2 songs, “We Were in Love” and a cover of Sting’s “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying,” on which Sting provided vocals and bass guitar. Keith ended his tenure at Mercury with 1998’s “Greatest Hits Volume One.”

In 1999, Keith moved to DreamWorks Records. His first single on the label, “When Love Fades,” performed poorly on the charts so he had it withdrawn and replaced by “How Do You Like Me Now?,” which became his first song to break through the top 40 on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 31. The album “How Do You Like Me Now?” was released later that year and produced another country No. 1 with “You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like This.” His 2001 album “Pull My Chain” followed a similar trajectory, with all three singles — “I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight,” “I Wanna Talk About Me” and “My List” reaching the top spot on the country charts.

2002’s “Unleashed” featured “Beer for My Horses,” a duet with Willie Nelson that topped the country charts for six weeks and made it to No. 22 on the Hot 100. In 2003, Keith dropped his eighth studio album, “Shock’n Y’all,” and all three singles — “I Love This Bar,” “American Soldier” and “Whiskey Girl” — reached No. 1 on the country charts. In 2004, Keith released his second “Greatest Hits” record, and in 2005 released his last album with DreamWorks, “Honkytonk University,” with single “As Good as I Once Was” hitting No.1.

I am a Big county Music fan and Toby Keith was one of the best, along side the likes of Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Tim McGraw.

I liked his hits "How do you like me now" and "Red, White and Blue"
He would go on to have 20 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, while 42 would make it into the Top 10.

But I will drink a beer or two to remember him as the tough Cowboy that he was.

Creator Of One Of The World's Most Beloved Breakfast Treats Has Died

HUFFPOST
yahoo.com
Ed Mazza
February 13, 2024

William Post, one of the inventors of an iconic breakfast staple that’s become an anytime snack with $1 billion in U.S. annual sales, has died.

He was 96.

Post, known to friends as “Bill,” helped create the Pop-Tart, an idea he said most people couldn’t get their heads around at the time.

“There were so many naysayers,” Post told News Channel 3 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 2021. “Some of my good friends would say, ‘I don’t know Bill.’ They would tell us it’s not such a good idea.”

Post had been plant manager at Hekman Biscuit Company, a regional baker that was part of the company that would become Keebler, when Kellogg’s came calling with the idea in 1964, his obituary said.

Post told News Channel 3 that he was used to making a single sheet of dough, like for a cracker. The challenge was adding a second layer with that delicious filling in the middle.

“To get that done, I had to break every rule in the book,” he said in a video produced by Kellanova, the current corporate name of Kellogg’s.

“Within four weeks, we had a handmade sample,” he told Fox 17 in Grand Rapids in 2022. “Within four months, we had a product that went to test market. They found out that kids really liked them.”

He said in the Kellanova video that a handmade test run of 10,000 samples of strawberry, blueberry, apple currant and brown sugar cinnamon sold out quickly locally. They scaled up to 45,000 cases of each flavor to test in Cleveland, and those sold out too.

“Those just blew off the shelves,” Post told Fox 17. “Kellogg’s ran a big-page ad: ‘Oops! We goofed! Sorry, we ran out of Pop-Tarts.’ From then on, we’ve been running ever since.”

CNBC said in October that Pop-Tarts had annual sales of about $1 billion in the United States alone.

But Post didn’t need to see the sales to know it would be a success.

He found out at home first, when he saw his kids couldn’t get enough.

“I used to bring a lot of stuff home, samples you’d run, and they’d turn up their noses, they didn’t like this or that,” he told The Associated Press in 2003. “But they used to ask me, ‘Bring those fruit scones home.’ That’s what we called them at first, internally. Fruit scones. ‘Bring some of those home, will you, Dad?’”

Pop-Tarts were unfrosted initially. The icing was added a few years later, and presented a new challenge including naysayers who worried the sweet topping would melt in toasters, making a gooey mess.

He told News Channel 3 it took him a single day to perfect the formula.

Post told News Channel 3 that his favorite flavor was one of the originals: strawberry. Also ― he eats them cold.

According to Post’s obituary, he wouldn’t claim credit for creating the morning staple.

“Bill would say, ‘I assembled an amazing team that developed Kellogg’s concept of a shelf-stable toaster pastry into a fine product that we could bring to market in the span of just four months,’” the obit states.

Post was married for 72 years to Florence Post, who died in 2020.

Jerry Seinfeld is currently working on a movie about the morning treat. Seinfeld directs, co-writes and stars in “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story,” which hits Netflix in May.

Porn star Kagney Linn Karter who died by suicide at 36 shot herself inside Ohio home, cops reveal.

Porn star Kagney Linn Karter found dead at age 36 was determined to have died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound.

Death 2-20-2024

Cuyahoga County officials listed her official cause of death as intraoral shotgun wound, meaning she was killed by the high-powered weapon that she placed inside her mouth.

The porn star reportedly took her own life in her home, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her friends.

Cuyahoga County officials investigating the case listed Karter's cause of death as an as intraoral shotgun wound - meaning she placed the shotgun inside her mouth before operating the weapon, according to TMZ.

Her death, which has shocked friends and fans, comes amid a resurfaced report of her previous feud with Chris Brown in which she claimed that he paid her $2,500 to be an escort and posted a pic of the singer's genitals online.

The adult film actress and exotic dancer reportedly took her own life in her home, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her friends on behalf of Kagney's mother to raise funds for a memorial service.

In 2015, Karter claimed that Brown paid her to be his escort as she shared pics of the singer's penis on Twitter (currently known as X), which eventually got her account suspended, according to TMZ.

The tweets and pictures have since been deleted, but Karter initially posted an image of Brown's penis on the platform and said: 'i can slap b****** now with chris browns d*** on my timeline all day some SLICK s*** **pulls out CBs d*** WHAP. Poetry, ain't it?', TMZ reported.

Karter also said that Brown thought that the deal they made included sex, and when she refused to sleep with the Next to You singer, he proceeded to bully her online, TMZ reported.

She reportedly tweeted things like 'I WILL NEVER F*** A WOMAN BEATER EW DISGUSTING' and 'HE IS PURE EVIL' about Brown.

A source previously told the Mirror that 'Chris has never met her or had any contact with her.'

'The story keeps changing. first it was that he tried to hire her and she said no so he harassed her on social media, and now it's the tape. It's all rubbish.'

DailyMail.com contacted Brown's team for comment but did not hear back in time for this report.

Two of Karter's family-friends, Rachel and Megan, set up a donation page to help raise funds to help Karter's mother Tina pay for memorial services.

'Unfortunately, despite all of her many impressive accomplishments and talents, Kagney struggled with mental health issues as the years passed by,' Rachel and Megan said.

'Even in her darkest days, however, she still showed up to the studio, always ready to learn, contribute, better herself in whatever small way she could manage.'
The late porn star reportedly tweeted things like 'I WILL NEVER F*** A WOMAN BEATER EW DISGUSTING' and 'HE IS PURE EVIL' about Brown

'As alone as she undoubtedly felt within the confines of her own head, she continued to make an effort to show up for her friends and the community who cared about her. She fought her own battles with the same tenacity and drive she showed in every other area of her life, with as much strength as she could,' they said.

Karter started in the pornography industry in the early 2000s and starred in films such as the Official Silence of the Lambs Parody and Not Married with Children XXX.

The star was nominated several times for Adult Video News awards, including in 2011 for top female performer of the year. In 2010, she was nominated as best new starlet.

In Karter's last Instagram post on February 10, she posted a bikini clad picture on the beach with the caption 'Hi from Florida."
She moved from Los Angeles to Ohio in 2019 and got involved with pole dancing fitness studios.

Karter opened a pole dancing studio of her own in Akron called Alchemy Pole Fitness.

'Her students and staff remember her incredibly fondly, both as an intelligent and intuitive instructor and as an owner who did all she could to build a little community of her own, something of which she could be proud, somewhere she could feel safe and wanted,' said the GoFundMe page.

Alan Robert Rogowski
(aka Professional Wrestler "Ole Anderson")

September 22, 1942 - February 26, 2024

Quote:
Anderson, real name Alan Robert Rogowski, was 81 at the time of his passing today.

While best remembered nationally as one of the founding members of the Four Horsemen, Anderson was one of the definitive heels of the Carolinas, especially when teaming with his "brother" the late Gene Anderson. Behind the scenes, Anderson was a booker for both Jim Crockett Promotions and Georgia Championship Wrestling. He was the last holdout when Vince McMahon purchased GCW from all other partners in the promotion, setting the stage for Black Saturday, where WWF programming replaced Georgia on WTBS before Jim Crockett Promotions later paid WWF $1 million to gain the timeslot for themselves.

A gruff, no nonsense individual who held nothing back verbally when it came to his opinions, Anderson would later end up in a position of power behind the scenes in WCW, and would co-author an incredible book with Scott Teal in 2003, Inside Out: How Corporate America Destroyed Professional Wrestling.

Originally trained by Verne Gagne and Dick the Bruiser, Anderson debuted in the late 1960s under the ring name Rock Rogwoski for the AWA. He soon moved to Jim Crockett Promotions, where he and Gene Anderson teamed as the Minnesota Wrestling Crew. Their heel run was legendary as the villains breaking down the extremities of their opponents, a methodical roughhouse team that radiated legitimate evil for that era. They were so great at their job that in 1976, while returning from an match, a fan named Oscar Ramsey in his 70s stabbed Anderson in the chest with a knife in Greenville, South Carolina. Anderson was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent a four-hour surgery to repair tendons in his arm. He suffered multiple wounds to his arm and chest in the attack.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew were the team to feud with and beat in the area, holding the NWA Tag Team Championships in that territory seven times, as well as the Georgia Tag Team Championship. If you were a babyface in that area, you feuded with the Andersons. It was as much a vote of confidence as much as a rite of passage - from Ric Flair to The Briscoes to Dusty Rhodes to Johnny Weaver to Mr. Wrestling I an II, you were programmed with the Andersons if you were making money in that territory.

When Anderson was booking Georgia Championship Wrestling, it was airing on WTBS, which gave national exposure to tons of talents and the opportunity torun a lot of markets tha GCW never would have touched, including Ohio and lots of other places. After the death of GCW and with Jim Crockett gaining the slot, Ole ended up back with JCP, where he and his "younger cousin" Arn Anderson were put together, including a feud with The Rock N' Roll Express.

If The Minnesota Wrestling Crew were GCW in that era, then The Four Horsemen - The Andersons, Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard with manager JJ Dillon - were truly Jim Cockett Promotions. The muscle to protect then-NWA World Champion Ric Flair, the Horsemen battled Dusty Rhodes, The Road Warriors, Magnum TA and more as JCP battled the WWF. While Anderson was turned babyface and kicked out of the group in favor of Lex Luger, he was done with wrestling full-time as a performer by 1987 but did later return to the ring, including a 1990 run in WCW.

Anderson would return with Arn and Flair to reform a babyface version of The Four Horsemen with Sting, with the idea that when The Horsemen would turn on Sting, Sting would become the new titleholder, but a torn ACL that same night pushed the title change back from February 1990 to July of that year at The Great American Bash. Ole worked as manager for the Horsemen and was handcuffed to the late El Gigante that night.

Behind the scenes as head of a WCW Booking Committee, Anderson later mockingly suggested The Black Scorpion character to Jim Herd, who was running the promotion and to Anderson's bemusement, Herd liked the idea. Anderson provided the voice for the masked character's promos. The story had no real planned ending when it began and it ended up being revealed it was all a Flair ruse.

When Eric Bischoff was placed in control of WCW, Anderson was assigned to the WCW Power Plant to oversee training. On one fateful day, he was giving his opinion, as he always did, but was knocking Bischoff. Blackjack Mulligan, who Bischoff had hired and placed at the facility in part because he was hurting financially and needed help, proceeded to punch out Anderson. Anderson was soon gone from the company.

After that WCW run ended, Anderson operated a saw mill that he owned and occasionally made convention signings in the Carolinas. He was one of the shining stars of the first-ever Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest, where he tore apart corporate wrestling, got emotional about how much he missed Gene Anderson and knocked Ric Flair for doing the same match with everyone.

Anderson had been battling multiple sclerosis in recent years. PWInsider.com is told Anderson had been under hospice care for several weeks.

PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to Anderson's family, friends and fans.
