Both HHH & Sandow were trained, originally, by the same guy (Killer Kowalski) so I'm thinking that there's a soft spot for him by HHH.
Then again, HHH let him languish in the development leagues for nearly a decade before he got called up, so maybe there's not as much connection between the two as I'm thinking. |

Sure, good point.
No denying Sandow is one of the stand out guys at the moment though. I just hope his gimmick doesn't wear thin. I'm not sure if he could reach world championship level, though maybe his match against Cena was a test? IMO it takes a great wrestler to make Cena look good. I think he would need a Daniel Bryan like reaction to elevate him. |

His gimmick will go thin, although it's different time etc so who knows. I can't see him as world champion, but again, who knows.
I'm just after downloading the main event so I'm going to watch it for the first time. Exciting stuff |

The same way that "Connecticut Blueblood, Hunter Hurst Helmsley" became HHH before getting to a world title level, and "Ringmaster" Steve Austin did the same ... as long as they let Damien Sandow's character evolve into something more than a modern day "Genius, Lanny Poffo", he'll be Ok.
I can see him losing some of the pretentiousness and adding a bit more ferocity and being more than fine. And, really, if a one-trick pony like Sheamus can win the Smackdown belt, I think the same is true for Damien Sandow, as-is, with just another year of exposure. He'd need some tweaking to win the belt that actually matters in the WWE's eyes, but I wouldn't be shocked if that happened in a few years when there's more turnover in stars. |

Thats true.
I could definitely see him winning a world championship. If he is still around when Cena and Orton and Big Show etc retire. Stranger things have happened. Wade Barrett should get in there first. Damien Sandow isn't doing much for me at the minute. I'm really hard to please so even if he was good I probably still wouldn't like him, but I haven't seen much good wrestling from him. I haven't heard much of his promos yet, but all I've heard is the shit that makes him sound like another robot, even though he is supposed to be sounding smart. If he was smart he should solve some impossible maths question. Do it in 20 seconds or something. That would impressive me and I might get behind him. |

And from what I've seen Cena sells A LOT to make guys look good. He'll take an ass whoopin' for 15 min and make you think the guy has really put him through the wringer. Of course, he usually powers back like Superman once the Kryptonite is taken away, which is what tends to piss a lot of fans off. But, he will sell for guys and make them look very good. Hell, he made a stiff like Sandow look like he was a contender for 20 minutes. What more proof do you want? Contrast that to guys like Alberto Del Rio (really doesn't sell a lot), Antonio Cesaro (stuffs or counters a lot of opponents' moves and doesn't sell all that well), The Great Khali (it's a good thing he's so big so he doesn't have to sell much because he really sucks at it), Ryback (dude couldn't sell water to a Bedouin in the Sahara)and Wade Barrett (see comments on Cesaro). The best sellers, IMHO, are CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Big Show (I mean come on, he'll even sell a hit from a little guy like Daniel Bryan like he just got rocked by Mark Henry), John Cena, Christian, Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus(only in the past year).

Wow Sandow did too many cartwheels during his match with Cena. I used to like it but talk about overkill. Cole sounded bored by the third one.
Truly unpredictable match next week, exciting stuff, but Cesaro still won't have been beaten by an american if he loses.. win-win, unless it happens on Smackdown or Raw lol. They need to keep that going otherwise he'll turn into a Tyson Kidd, a wasted talent with nothing going for him. His 5 languages won't pull him through that because while it is impressive nobody really gives a crap. Just makes a decent trivia question in a few years time when Fink is trying to come up with more modern questions rather than reverting back to the 1980s. |

Actually, R-Truth beat Cesaro in a non-title match on Smackdown last week. So, he has been beat by an American since he became US Champion, just not for the title.

Even Cena started as a thug villian towards the beginning of his career before evolving into the face of the company now. |
