Everything is in a cafaffle right now. I think what they've done is tried to make something interesting but have absolutely f'd it up and are now trying to make amends all over the place.
What have I got to look forward to next week, Lawler? Oh joy. I understand it was tragic and i'm not mocking it at all but do you think Lawler is a shows selling point? It'll be interesting to see if Raw picks up when the Rock returns. It needs a blast from the past because this new age is stinking up the joint. Stale Cena. Boring gimmicks. Creative on a constant coffee break. Championships that mean sod all. I know ratings are going down the toilet but don't get down flushed with them. No wonder Shane McMahon up stick and went off to do whatever the heck he does. Retire Vince with his grandkids and stick HHH in charge, may as well see how it goes, can't get any worse surely?

Instead what they REALLY are is a bunch of Old 50 yr olds who dont know sh*t about Todays happenings and our main storyline approval guy is an out of touch BORED 70yr old [who has nothing else to do with his life just like his bored Rich Wife] CONSTANTLY changing storylines since he lost it more than well over 10 years ago..and because all he has for his creative team [theyre NOT f*cken creative] are a bunch of old fogey yes men sheep and young hollywood morons who wouldnt dare challenge him because they live in a f*cken Medieval world ruled by a Lunatic who lives in his own Bubble...

What they need is a writing staff that doesn't suck, and to go back to the way things were in the 90s.

Having read and listened to several interviews with former writers, the problem isn't with the writers. The problem is with Vince and Steph. In the 90s, guys like VInce Russo and Ed Ferrera were very creative. However, they also had guys like Jerry Brisco, Jim Ross, and Pat Patterson on the booking committee to make sure some of the shit was somewhat reasonable and the booking made sense. Those three guys had the balls to tell Vince McMahon when they didn't like a storyline. That's not the case now. Writers and agents are afraid of Vince and Steph. Besides that, they pick and choose which writers' views they'll listen to stupidly. Court Bauer was a writer for the WWE for several years. Before that he was the promoter for MLW (an entertaining promotion in the early 00s). Steph would nix every idea based on the fact that she didn't like him. He would give other writers storylines he created, and they would pass as long as they didn't come from him. Maybe writers and agents have a right to be scared of Vince. Finlay gets fired for a dumb flag incident. Goldust gets fired because two green guys botch a move. Vince has passed the time when he'd go George Steinbrenner/Billy Martin on Jim Ross.

Writers aren't responsible for the AAD bullshit storylines we see. Before getting on the writing committee, writers are placed alongside someone like Dusty Rhodes or Ted Dibiase who explains to them how to write a long term storyline with a slow build. It is VInce who wants to hotshot new ideas when he doesn't think something is working. Worse, he's so out of touch with the current fanbase that he doesn't think the fans care. Writers wanted to reslove the anonymous Raw GM storyline long ago, but Vince didn't want to. This was over a year before we finally got the bullish reveal.

Vince will also sabotage wrestlers he doesn't like. CW Anderson was wrestling for nu ECW and was getting very positive reports from agents, which is not surprising because he wrestled a style that guys like Arn, Ted, and Dustry cream over. Vince didn't get whey he got such high marks, so in a match he had the ref have CW and his opponent switch roles multiple times in a match. Everyone knows that wrestling as an old school heel and old school face is fairly different, so for both wrestlers to switch off between both roles is going to cause a clusterfuck. Of course it caused a clusterfuck and Vince blamed CW. Vince has also never been behind Rey. Sure, he's put the belt on him, but that was to capitalize on Eddie's death, his heritage, and his ability to sell merchandise to the kids. Vince was a big reason that Rey jobbed a lot during his last World Title reign, and was even going to have Finlay win the title from him before he was talked out of it by Steph.


You won't see the WWE ever go as risque as it was in the late 90s. The simple reason is because they make more money PG. Being PG allows them more ad revenue. House attendance is down, TV ratings are down, PPV ratings are down, but oddly enough PPV attendance is up and the WWE is still making enough money that doesn't require a colossal change like changing from PG.

MIB04, I agree with you - Vince, HHH & (especially) Steph were totally included in my "writing staff that doesn't suck" statement. At this point the people that are throwing stuff against the wall are part of the McMahon/Helmsley regime and writers that don't come from a wrestling background. I fully agree that Vince/HHH/Steph are the biggest problems, but even if they stepped back & let the current team do their thing, I think the current group lacks the ability to pen a decent show.

I actually don't want them to go back to the risque 90s. I don't want a return to the attitude era - I don't need chair shots to the head, or tons of blood every week, or constant table bumps, or people swearing like sailors-on-leave to get their points across. PG wrestling if fine by me - it's just when it's poorly done PG wrestling that it's bothersome. What I meant by "a return to the 90s" was just the willingness to adapt and to push the people that the fans wanted to get behind instead of pushing the guys that work out with HHH (Sheamus) or the guys that have been chosen by Steph/HHH (Del Rio, Sin Cara).

It's like that match a few months ago, Sheamus vs Ziggler, and with a very audible "Let's Go Ziggler!" chant coming from the fans, Vince had Lawler say some stupid line about how the fans were cheering for Sheamus. 15 years ago, they'd have attached a rocket to Ziggler's ass and made a ton of money off of him; now, they punish him and give Sheamus (and idiots like Ryback) pushes because they (the people in back) like them, without caring what the fans think.

EDIT: I just watched that video that Armanoïd posted - I agree with a bunch of them, but what a random group of finishers in general. Some were way too high (Pedigree, for instance) and some were attributed to the wrong person, IMHO, but still a pretty cool list.
