Annie Wersching, ‘24’ Actor and Tess in ‘The Last of Us’ Video Game, Dies at 45
Variety.com Charna Flam Jan. 29, 2023 Annie Wersching, an actor best known for her roles in “24” and “Bosch” and for originating the role of Tess in the 2013 video game “The Last of Us,” has died following a two-year battle with cancer. She was 45. Wersching’s death was confirmed through a GoFundMe campaign, shared to draw financial support for the actor’s family. The campaign has been shared by Alexi Hawley, showrunner of “The Rookie,” Julie Plec, the showrunner of “The Vampire Diaries,” as well as “The Last of Us” creative director Neil Druckmann. Plec tweeted, “I became a fan from ‘24’ and was lucky to be able to have Annie play mama to two of the hottest vamps in town… RIP Annie, you wonderful soul.” “We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered,” Druckmann wrote. Born in St. Louis, Mo., Wersching’s first screen credit came at 24 years old, appearing in a 2002 episode of “Star Trek: Enterprise.” Wersching would go on to appear in a variety of series — including “Frasier,” “Supernatural” and “Charmed” — before landing recurring roles as Amelia Joffe in “General Hospital” and Renee Walker in “24.” Wersching would later join “Timeless,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Extant” as recurring characters. Wersching also appear in “Runaways” and “The Rookie.” After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020, Wersching continued acting throughout the following two years. Wersching’s GoFundMe notes how much the actor adored her family. “Annie lived for her family. She loved her work and cherished her friends, but Steve and the boys were her absolute everything. It’s so Steve can have time to grieve without the pressure of needing to work. So he can be daddy to Freddie (12), Ozzie (9) and Archie (4) as they navigate the future without their mom, without sweet Annie.” Wersching is survived by her husband, Stephen, and three sons, Eddie, Ozzie and Archie, aged 12, 9 and 4. |

Being an "actor" in a videogame means that the actor gets "digitalized" using sophisticated processes (CGI mainly, but also other techniques) like James Cameron did for Avatar.
His/her likeness remains the same, although for more sophisticated characters, like in Avatar, for example, the computer-generated image of the actor undergoes other complex digital processes.

oic. i know about it for movies, but i didn't realize there were humanoid "characters" in video games to begin with.
so are these movie-based? like johnny depp in the pirates movies, where u control his actions to some degree? or daniel-san in a karate game maybe? i wouldn't mind being spock. he ever make it to one of these games? |

There have been MANY over the past few years.
The Resident Evil series, particularly Village, has the ladies "monsters" based on real actresses. Check for yourself: They do Motion-Capture for videogames, unlike in movies. And then they program everything via software, so players can control their actions accordingly, or make a particular character appear out of nowhere or script their actions for cutscenes and in-game battles, like in the case of the Nemesis or Mr X, in the case of the Resident Evil 2-3 remakes.

the LAST OF US video game. They used live action film of real people acting out the parts and talking. Then the computers re-created the human models and backgrounds, which made the final video-game look alot more realistic. It was very interesting how tecnology is evolving rapidly in this day and age. So sad to see Annie Wersching pass away so soon and still so young. I hope that at least she had the opportunity of enjoying her life as much as possible and in creating the cool characters for the LAST OF US. God Bless her.

LAST OF US video game?! egads, what a snooze THAT must be.
i watched the show for an ep or two when it began. mandy moore still kinda cute, but the whole soap opera....zzzzzZZZZZZ..... btw, i DID see "striking vipers" (black mirror ep) a few years back, so now i kinda get the "controlling human char" idea. i figured that was all just scifi stuff, like the rest of the show. are we also putting VR buttons on our temples yet? |

Original Wednesday Addams Lisa Loring Taken Off Life Support, Dies at 64
DAILY BEAST Matt Young Jan. 30, 2023 Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Addams who played the spooky scion in the 1960s sitcom The Addams Family, has died at the age of 64. The news of Lisa Loring’s death was announced by friends on social media, who said she had slipped into a coma and died Jan. 28. Close friend Laurie Jacobson announced the news Sunday night via Facebook, and described how Loring “suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure” four days ago. She was on life support for three days until her family “made the difficult decision to remove it and she passed last night.” “She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams,” Jacobson wrote. “Beautiful, kind, a loving mother, Lisa’s legacy in the world of entertainment is huge. And the legacy for her family and friends – a wealth of humor, affection and love will long play in our memories. RIP, Lisa. Damn, girl...you were a ton of fun.” Loring’s death comes on the heels of a resurgence in popularity for the young Addams, thanks to Jenna Ortega’s portrayal in the hit Netflix series. Ortega had made no comment by the time of publication. Despite a number of variations over the years—including the iconic ’90s films starring Christina Ricci as Wednesday—Loring was the first to play the character in the TV adaptation of Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons. The show ran for two seasons between 1964-1966. Ricci also had not commented by the time of publication. Loring, who was 8 at the time she filmed the end of the series, was ultimately picked because of her likeness to Carolyn Jones, who played the matriarch Morticia Addams in the series. According to entertainment publicist Danny Deraney, her ability to memorize her lines quickly helped nail her the part. John Astin, who played patriarch Gomez Addams, is now the only surviving cast member from the original series. “We were very close and worked together often. I know she was very weak,” said Butch Patrick, who writes a blog on another iconic ’60s sitcom, The Munsters. “I was in her company just a few weeks ago. Godspeed my friend.” Larry Thomas, who played the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, wrote that the pair had been friends since they were teenagers. “I am a little too shaken and saddened to make many calls and I know you’d want to know.” School friend Geoffrey Mark described how he knew Loring as she filmed the series, and revealed she was his first kiss. “I met Lisa Loring in September of 1965. She used her real name of Lisa DeCinces when we attended Dixie Canyon Elementary School together in Sherman Oaks, CA,” he wrote. “We were in the same class. She became done with being Wednesday on The Addams Family during that time and was starting to appear on The Pruitts of Southampton with my friend Phyllis Diller. I used to do her homework for her because she had trouble concentrating and was in jeopardy of being held back due to poor grades. “Her wardrobe was wild – paper dresses, plastic dresses, mini-skirts and go-go boots. She was coquettish and very confused at handling the public actress and the private little girl. I don't think that she ever figured it out. “She gave me my first kiss on the lips. We were eight. Decades later, I interviewed her on-camera for a documentary that I was writing and producing with Robert Corsini about The Addams Family. “She was still coquettish, but a hard life filled with bad choices showed on her face. It made me very sad. Lisa has left the building. This makes me even sadder.” Loring also starred on shows including The Phyllis Diller Show, The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. and Fantasy Island, to name a few. She reprised her role as Wednesday in 1977 in the made-for-TV Addams Family movie, Halloween with the New Addams Family. She last appeared on screen in 2015 as part of the film Doctor Spine. |
