Alex Smith signed a very modest (for a starting QB), 3-year contract back in the spring:

3/20/2012: Signed a three-year, $24 million contract. The deal contains $9 million guaranteed -- an initial roster bonus of $3 million, all of Smith's 2012 base salary, and $1 million of his 2013 salary. Another $9 million is available through incentives, though $5.25 million of them are "unlikely to be earned." An annual $250,000 workout bonus is available. 2012: $5 million, 2013: $7.5 million (+ $1 million roster bonus due in March), 2014: $7.5 million, 2015: Free Agent

Whoa those are contract numbers you expect to see for a Q.B. like Matt Hasslebeck ---a former S.B. Q.B. now just hangin' around as a back up collectin' a paycheck ,Not for a Q.B. who is 20-5-1 in his last 26 starts.

Yup, even Carson Palmer is averaging ~$12M per season. Heck, Kevin Kolb is going to be getting between $8-10M per season, if he doesn't get cut first. Mark Sanchez is right there with Kolb, both in pay and performance.

The 49'ers have a very nice problem. If Kaepernick stays the starter and performs well, they can trade Alex Smith and his very reasonable contract to a QB needy team (like the Jets or Jags) for some nice draft picks. If they put Alex back in as starter, they still have a very good and cheap insurance policy sitting behind him. One that can still get some game time each week in special formations. It's what the Jets only thought they were getting with Tebow.

Disappointed that the Seahawks lost against the Dolphins, the defense was getting trampled..., although Russell Wilson did an excellent job, the defense wasn't getting anything done on the other end though... Also Lynch was having a bad game, couldn't get any yardage on his rushes... Should have been an easy win for the Seahawks.

It's not going to get any better if Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner don't win their suspension appeals. Right now, they'll be lucky if they have them for the Chicago game. Worst case scenario is they miss the Chicago and S.F. games. Although, I guess the doomsday scenario is they drag the appeals out for two weeks and miss the last three games of the season (including S.F.) and the first game of the playoffs, if they make them. That would really suck for them.

Yup. Brees didn't have the greatest game against S.F. last week either. I will say he didn't get a lot of help from his receivers on several occasions either. There were some silly drops and at least one of his INT's came after the receiver practically handed it to the defender.

Even the impeccable Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have had 5 INT games. Brees will bounce back.
