PS has many special rules which are different from almost any boards' rules. For example the 10 posts rule in PATM. And mods take serious these rules (thank God!)
I am sure that a slightly different interface for noobs would be very useful. I mean an extra section in the top, under the menus. It would contain clickable links to ALL rules of all sections, posting guidelines and first of all, a text "Read it! Very important!" (or something similar) with large fonts. Perhaps it could be a pop-up window-like thing. It would be visible only to noobs (and to notorious violators, like Timmy and Fyb too ) , for certain period of time, like 1 month from the date of join. I don't know if it is technically practicable or not in this board, but I think it would be useful to new members and mods too (less mistakes, rule violations - less work)

And DH is right. You'll get the best answers to your posting questions by PMing a mod of the section you have posted in.

PATM rules are too long for sure. I'm not judging the work done for the rules, I'm giving my "user" point of view. Rules are clear: 13 points. But who wants to read those 13 paragraphs?
I think it could simplified. There are 2 things:
As so, more people would be inclined to read this first part (important information) than the whole package like now. For the first part "important information", I think that a list of "DO NOT" alone (like the 2nd ยง) would be more clear. Then, the only thing the poster would have to do is to go along the list and check if he is good on every one of them. No need to read all the 13 points like now and forgot half of them when he finally make the post.

I have been in the process of writing a PDF document entitled: Planet Suzy For Dummies.
It isn't going to be about the rules (because these are fluid and change over time), but about how members, particularly those who have just joined, can get the most out of our community. I will be mentioning that it is important to learn and adhere to the rules, but will not be going into detail about them. This guide will explain the things we now all take for granted, but that might have taken us a while to discover: I was a member here for almost a whole year before I discovered about subscribing to threads, and even about the user CP...

Most of the warning received by members i think it's for the USE THE SEARCH.
And it's very annoying with the 30 seconds between two searchs ,and you must have some search skills. But for a newbie who don't know how to use the search ,and don't know about the ( 1,$,3,@,...) it's very complicated for a newbie. A new thread in PATM and Celebs need a moderator approval. So why don't make sticky threads for who wants to start a new thread ? It's easier for both members and mods. |
