I already gave my two cents, but I just wanted to add one cent more and then I'm done. I truly believe that there is no right or wrong answer to this thread's question. Whether someone enjoys or not enjoy a deceased actor's work is purely subjective. I happen to think that it's okay; however, others on here feel the opposite. And that's perfectly fine. But the point of the matter is that none of us have any room to judge nor force our beliefs onto others. Neither do any of us have the right to shame others for their choices in a condescending manner.

It's as simple as that.

My take is ... that if I can listen to and still enjoy music from long-dead classical composers, appreciate the performances of film actors equally a-mouldering, revel in the works of literary giants and continue to be stunned by artists long gone to the realm above (or below) I can honour the memory and appreciate the efforts of those stars who set out to entertain carnally the likes of mortals like me. Cracking one off the wrist is an homage to their labours.

I think this point is super valid as one's actions pay homage to our collective history. We can't just live for the here and now. Why deny all of the accomplishments of the people that have gone before us?

Is somehow being aroused by someone's performance 30-40 years ago somehow shameful? I don't think so as it was their intent that their audience enjoys it.

How one shows any form of appreciation for any sort of performance is solely up to them- whether it's cheering, clapping hands, buying more, or getting aroused sexually, there shouldn't be any shame or awkwardness associated with it at all. I, for one appreciate the efforts and performances of artists long before today's crop of people as they're the ones that laid down some of the groundwork and broke through some of the barriers for today's accomplishments.

I think it kind of depends on how they died?

Like with vintage porn stars who went on to live a long life after their career, the sentiment of watching their clips is different from a more current porn star who died a tragic early death due to say suicide or drug overdose. It's hard to enjoy their work when you know what ultimately happened to them, if that makes sense.

For me it would depend how she/he died. If it was suicide or (for at least one I can remember) a car-crash death suggestive of de facto suicide, then I would avoid work featuring the actor in question.
But despite a twinge of guilt, I still occasionally watch eg the excellent work of a woman who died on a cocaine high in the company of a friend: circumstances considered "natural" enough to merit no more than a brief police involvement.
