How to Monitor & Be Aware Of Windows Vista battery status. How often has it happened for you that, while working you missed the Low Battery warning popup or the Critical Battery Alarm, and your laptop simply hibernated. Windows Vista does play a sound when the battery reaches a critical stage. You can confirm it as follows: Open Control Panel > Sound > Sounds > Ensure & Test that Critical battery alarm is working OK. You may also want to try this freeware Battery Monitoring Utility For Laptops. It does not require an install and gives out two types of loud warning sounds; one for low battery & the other for critical battery level notification. |

Windows Vista explorer.exe does not start on boot If your Windows Vista explorer.exe fails to start up automatically on every boot, here are a few steps you may wish to carry out: 1) Please see if it starts in safe mode. If it does then obviously something is interfering with its normal start in regular mode. 2) I suggest you scan for malware in safe mode, remove infections if any and reboot. 3) See if a System Restore helps you. 4) Open regedit and navigate to : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon In the RHS Pane, ensure that the default string value of : "Shell"="Explorer.exe". Exit. 5) Start >Search Menu Bar > sfc /scannow > rt click on result > Run As Administrator. KB928228 will show you how to analyze the log file entries that SFC.exe generates in Vista. |

Games Explorer link does not work in Vista. Business is business–except when it is not. Business people need their little games too. Here is how to find them in vista business edition: 1. Click Start 2. Click Control Panel 3. Click Programs 4. Click Programs and Features 5. Select Windows features on or off from the left column 6. Accept the UAC 7. Check the Games checkbox 8. Hit OK If all is OK. Enjoy! Otherwise try as below: To open the Windows Vista games folder, you'd normally click on the Games Explorer link in the Start Menu. You have to ensure that it appears there in the first place. If it doesn't appear, Click Start > Rt Click > Properties > Start Menu tab > Customize > Select Games > Display as a link or Display as a menu > OK > Apply > OK Incidentally, if you type Shell:Games in Vista's start menu search bar and hit enter, then too the games folder will open. But if the Games Explorer folder does not open in your Windows Vista, here is what you may try. Type cmd in Vista's start menu. When cmd appears as a result, rt click on it and select Run as administrator. In the elevated command prompt, type regsvr32.exe gameux.dll and hit Enter. This will re-register the gameux dll file. It should help. |

How to Change Thumbnail Preview Border in Windows Vista Explorer By default, the thumbnail previews in Windows Vista explorer.exe appear as miniature photographs. You can, if you wish, tweak the registry to make them appear like a video film cutting along with the 'sprocket-holed' perforated borders. To do so, open regedit and navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image In the RHS panel, rt click on Treatment and select Modify. Change the hexadecimal value of this to 3, from its default 2. Reboot. Open any explorer window where you store your images and ensure that the thumbnail view is selected. You will see the change. Changing the value to 0 or 1 instead does cause some minor changes to the thumbnail previews, too. |

Cannot select more than one file or folder in Vista If, in Windows Vista Explorer, you are unable to select multiple files or folders, either after using the Select All option from Organize Tab or Ctrl+A keyboard combo, then this script from Keiths Windows Stuff will help you. Code:
Download - FixSingleSelect Script After downloading the script, close all explorer windows and run this script. A reboot may be required. |
