It simply says what the source is and you shouldn't infer anything about the quality. In other words, DVD does not equal quality while analog sources equal poor quality. I have seen many well-done captures of analog content that are much better than the corresponding DVDs. As a general rule tapes have better colors and brightness, while DVDs have less noise. Vivid was infamous for releasing DVDs in the 90s that were from a technical perspective shitty, despite a DVD bitrate. Many of the corresponding tapes turned out much better as sources for encoding. Also a point to remember is that many DVDs are edited for various reasons, while analog sources are more likely to be uncut.

People might prefer an mp4 over a DVD because it's much easier to access the content of an mp4. A DVD takes a longer time to fire up and navigate to your favorite scene. I'm one of these weirdos. I have been ripping 1000s of movies to mp4 and find myself never watching a full DVD, unless it has some interesting extras.

I'm not disputing anything you said, i was trying to talk in general terms. I did say that some DVD's are just poor quality VHS transfers and yes quality is all about the source material. However, as i tried to point out rips that are lower resolution and much lower bitrates than the DVD or BD they came from to me is a downgrade. I also rip these to mkv or mp4, clean up dirt/scratches and recolour but it's time consuming and results vary.
Again generally speaking SD and HD aren't just about resolution it's also about bitrate. Creating a 1080p file with just 2Mb/s bitrate even with H265 is less than desirable while using the same bitrate on SD would probably not produce much detail loss from the source.
Back to my original post though when I see posts with "DVD Rips" and the resolution is 640x480 or the framerate is 23/24 fps I tend to question whether the actual source was a DVD especially if the picture quality looks like VHS.
In todays h9gher resolutions downgrading DVD resolutions is never a good idea...
So in general if the DVD rip has all the traits associated with VHS such as tracking noise, colour banding, ghosting, colour shift etc then I'd like to see that reflected in the title. Not all thumbnails are clear enough to see some of this before downloading and if it has VHS in the title at least it's a general indication of what you might expect visually.

Although clicknupload is still one of the fastest free downloads it's becoming more painful to use. It's now creating 8 popups, 1 popunder and 3 page redirects even with Adblock plus running before I can actually get a single download.

Hosts:

Filejoker seems to be the predominant host atm but it does cause problems. Since it's non-resumable for free users files need to be less than 3GB otherwise speed is capped from 120Kbps to 50Kbps and downloads effectively have to be left going overnight. Also it seems to cause more errors with the "download not finished" error from the server as much as 24 hours after it did finish. Normally has a 4 hour cooldown when working properly and not giving errors although the speed cap seems to apply again beyond the 3Gb daily.
Clicknupload is getting progressively worse with popups and redirects which as previously said it will give virus and malware warnings not actually linked to the actual download. My browser today couldn't even capture the link at all after 20+ clicks. Luckily jdownloader still works and it is the fastest host at 1Mb/s.
Keep2share is the only free resumable host so larger files aren't generally a problem. It is only 50Kbps but since it can be resumed it's not really a problem it just takes a lot of time.

Rapidgator doesn't seem to be used but I can tell you from other sites it has a 3 files per day limit regardless of size, 120Kbps speed again not size dependent but is also non resumable for free users.

On a side note Filejoker and Rapidgator only allow 1 file at a time, Clicknupload seems to allow up to 3 but seems to also have a dependency on who uploaded the file, Keep2share allows multiple files at the same time but has a 10Gb limit per day.
