Boilsoft Video Splitter 5.16, very simple tool. Has a few options, it's pretty easy to cut video into scenes.

Have a look at my tutorials here and here. I stopped using Avideumux because I kept running into audio sync problems. My preferencs now is for VirtualDubMod which I think is the best version of all the VirtualDub variations. The main restriction is that if you are working with formats other than .avi in VirtualDub you will have to re-encode them to .avi rather than using DirectStreamCopy. |

An encoded video usually has different types of frames. You can't cut outside of i-frames without reencoding. That's why you can't cut wherever you want, at least losslessly.
By the way, I found Avidemux not very effective with mkv. Mkvmerge handles mkv better, but it doesn't have a preview pane. |

Why is video technology and terminology and software so complicated ?
At my age (61 its getting harder to remember everything so I have to write it down. (type it) OK I know the term for ripping a DVD to your pc is called Ripping. And I know the term for copy video files back on to a DVD is called burning. And converting say mkv files to avi files is called converting But what is the tern for converting ripped vob files to avi ? And can you use both Avi-demuxe and AK Gordian Knot for this task ? I think I have used them both at one time or other. I have ordered a DVD that I want to extract a few scenes to avi for PS. And I want to do a good job. Maybe 720 or 640 res ?

You can use Avidemux - but beware of audio sync problems. You can also use VirtualDub MPEG2 or VirtualDub Mod. I can do a quick tutorial in the VirutalDub Tips and Tricks thread if you like. Don't know about Gordian KNot. |

I've already split and repaired sooo many files in my porn life. And for every container/codec-format I've tried at least 3 tools, I guess.

So, now I use a distinct tool for each container, which works quite decent for me. avi - VirtualDub mp4 - mpeg streamclip wmv - asfbinwin For more sophisticated tasks I have got Vegas from Sony, but honestly it's too powerful too figure out everything. Still need a reliable tool for the mkv-Container. Any recommendations? I also recommend videohelp.com - there're many tutorials and you can find about any tool you've ever heard of. |
