IMO, they are securing positions in the area, that's the main reason why

China is not in the "western team", they just make sure they are not thrown out of the loop in that story

Somalia and Sudan are next, but are not the final objective, IMHO

it's so sad...when the imperial powers pulled out of asia, most of the countries there really started surging. africa, otoh, just turns into more and more of a mess. every country. every regime.

i just watched the documentary "king leopold's ghost". scary stuff.

still waiting for "heart of darkness". will anyone EVER make a movie of that?!

yeah, yeah, i know, some minor TV version once, but not a real one. there was talk a few years back of spielberg tackling it, but that was the last i've heard of it.

orson welles was TURNED DOWN by the studios for it, btw! so he went and made some little "kane" movie instead....

Well, Libya was pretty much stable before my country decided to turn it into a terrorist safe haven for the sake of humanity
They sold it to us so quickly and went so fast about it, that when we figured it was a total scam it was already too late

Pretty much the same deal with Mali, which is basically the consequence of the fall of Lybia, with the Lybian arsenal falling in the hands of those we're fighting now

2 movie versions: 1) minor one on TV, 2) apocalypse now. coppola got lost on the way to africa....

uv prolly seen apocalypse now, but it's worth rewatching to see how it matches up.

TV version of heart of darkness will make u crave a large-scale "real" version, tho, set in the right place. as in apocalypse CONGO, not apocalypse danang....
