Vangelis, the Greek composer whose rousing electronic theme music for the Oscar-winning “Chariots of Fire” was one of the best-known film scores of the 1980s, has died at the age of 79, the Athens News Agency said on Thursday.

Citing an announcement from his lawyers’ office, ANA said Vangelis died late on Tuesday, without giving a cause of death.

Greek media reported that Vangelis died in a French hospital late Tuesday.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other government officials expressed their condolences Thursday. “Vangelis Papathanassiou is no longer among us,” Mitsotakis tweeted.

Born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou in 1943 in Volos, the young Vangelis developed an early interest in music and experiments with sounds produced by banging pots and pans or fixing nails, glasses and other objects to the strings of his parents’ piano.

He absorbed the tones of Greek folk songs and Orthodox Christian choral music, but he had no formal musical training, which he later said had helped save his sense of creativity.

After a start with local rock bands, Vangelis left for Paris at the age of 25, joining an exodus of young artists following a 1967 coup which installed a military junta in Greece.

As he found his feet away from home, he was attracted by the then-new field of electronic synthesizers which allowed him to create the lush melodic colors that became his trademark sound.

Despite enjoying success in the European “prog rock” scene of the early 1970s, he was uncomfortable with the expectations on a commercial performing artist and largely retreated to the recording studio he created for himself in London.

Raymond Allen Liotta (Italian: [liˈɔtta]; December 18, 1954 – May 26, 2022) was an American actor and producer. His best-known roles include Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams (1989), Henry Hill in Goodfellas (1990) and Tommy Vercetti in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002).

His other roles included Ray Sinclair in Something Wild (1986), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, as well as starring in Unlawful Entry (1992), Cop Land (1997), Hannibal (2001), Blow (2001), John Q (2002), Identity (2003), Observe and Report (2009), Killing Them Softly (2012), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), and Marriage Story (2019), as well as the drama series Shades of Blue (2016–2018).

Liotta died in his sleep on May 26, 2022, while in the Dominican Republic filming Dangerous Waters; he was 67. At the time of his death, he was engaged to Jacy Nittolo.

the band announced on their official social media channels. He was 60 years old.

The announcement did not specify a cause of death.
The British electronic band was officially founded in 1980 by Fletcher, Dave Gahan,
Martin Gore and Vince Clarke. Fletcher remained a member of the band for more
than 40 years and appeared on all 14 studio albums,
from their 1981 debut "Speak & Spell" to 2017's "Spirit."

This is just even more sad to hear.

I grew up with DM and their music, and have been a loyal fan for over 25 years. And thanks to their music I got into NIN and other ambient/industrial bands.
Andy has always been the one who "kept them all" together, even when Dave was struggling with Heroin addiction.
He was the mastermind of the band. And without him, i'm sure it will be hard for both Dave and Martin to keep the band going.

Man, this is just so sad.

Alan White (14 June 1949 – 26 May 2022) was an English drummer and songwriter, best known for his tenure in the progressive rock band Yes. He joined Yes in 1972 as a replacement for original drummer Bill Bruford. Following the death of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, White became the longest-remaining member in the band and the only member besides Squire to never leave the band prior to his death in 2022.

In 1969, White joined John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band, after Lennon invited him to play at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival, followed by a show at the Lyceum Ballroom. He notably played drums on the singles "Instant Karma!" and "Imagine", as well as on eight of the ten tracks on Lennon's 1971 Imagine album.

In addition to his work with Yes and John Lennon, White performed on over 50 albums by other musicians, notably George Harrison, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Terry Reid, Joe Cocker and The Ventures.

White was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of Yes, in 2017.

White died at his home in Newcastle, on 26 May 2022, aged 72, following a brief illness. It had been announced three days earlier that he would be absent from the Close to the Edge 50th anniversary tour due to health issues.
