If you guys are looking for a super sweet deal on some good storage, I got you covered! Not long ago I built a RAID5 array to help protect the porn library and upscale work. It has x4 4TB drives that are HGST 7200 RPM 128MB Cache SATA6 drives which gives me about 10TB of usable space that can handle a drive failure without data loss. And if you setup the Storage Spaces array correctly (the default settings result in REALLY slow performance) the array is pretty damn fast. I get around 200MB/sec sustained write speeds and 400MB/sec sustained read speeds from it.

Anyway... I have been using these drives for the past couple years, along with 3 other HGST drives for the past 6 years, without any problems and they are all factory renewed drives that I got from Amazon. BTW, HGST has one of the lowest drive failure rates in the industry. I'm starting to sound like a commercial! Search for "HGST Ultrastar He10 | HUH721010ALE604 | 0F27488" on Amazon and you will find the ones I just ordered. 10TB HGST Ultrastar He10 7200RPM 256MB cache SATA6 drives for $80 each! These things are normally over $320 each. Factory renewed and tested. 2.5M MTBF! 2.5 million hours meantime between failures... so about 285 years between drive failure on average. Plus, they have 5 year warranties. They are special in that they are filled with Helium and sealed so that they run longer and better. I also ordered a sweet little 5 bay Yottamaster hardware RAID enclosure to put them in with a 5GBPS USB connection speed.

The plan is to run the x4 10TB drives in RAID5 to get about 30TB usable that can tolerate a drive failure and then use the x4 4TB drives in a RAID0 array to use for temporary video storage. I have been using a couple high speed 1TB NVME drives as my temp video storage but after switching to ProRes intermediate files (which are about x10 larger than what I was using before for intermediate files) I have already maxed those out a couple times over the past week and had to shuffle files around. This new setup should solve that.

Hey gang, if you guys download stuff from a post of mine I would appreciate it if you hit the "Thanks" button for that post. Why? It helps me know that I am doing a good job, plus it gives me an idea of the content (stars and types of scenes) that is liked more so I can try to cater to it a bit when I choose what to work on. Trying to resist making the Thanks a requirement, but I am considering it.

I am slowing gearing up toward creating a website specifically for upscaled/remastered work and would be happy to have input from any of you during the development process. I have many ideas and plans for it. The discord will be used to build a community with the same interests... Upscaling/Restoring/Remastering. Where we can share processes, tips, tools, results, etc. Let me know if you are interested!

I don't use discord but a website is a great idea. It would be a rather large endeavour but if you have the time then awesome. I guess you already know/visit more than a few forums dedicated to video-upscaling.

On a side-note, I have often felt annoyed by the lack of a separate section for upscaled videos on planetsuzy. Outside of this excellent thread, you have to repeatedly search for 'upscaled', 'enhanced', 'ai-enhanced', 'aienhanced' and so forth.
