I met Paulina once in the 1980s. Definitely was someone who was much, much hotter in person than on camera/photographs. Not that I thought she was ugly before meeting her, obviously I could appreciate her beauty. Yet she was ethereal-jaw-on-the-floor gorgeous in the flesh. The fact that she was married to Ric Ocasek for much of her physical peak is still something I can't wrap my head around!

Well that stuff depends on two things:

1. How hard does the model have to work to maintain her body?
2. How much is her body tied to her self-image?

If you're a young woman who has to work crazily hard to look as good as you do but you aren't so insecure that you feel the need to maintain your physique even after you retire from modeling, you are 100% going to gain weight, sometimes a lot of it.

The girls who don't change much after retiring fall into two groups:

1. Physical freaks who don't need much exercise to keep on looking good (a very small group)
2. Women who believe their worth is entirely tied to their looks and thus can't stop maintaining their body even after it's no longer important for their paychecks

Cindy Crawford is an extreme example of the second group. I remember her even mentioning that she felt bad when guys would check her out less frequently when she was out and about on the street, after she had aged out of the modeling industry. Those are serious self-esteem issues.
