For me there needs to be a clear division between work and outside. I’ll work with you, but I’m not going to tag along to watch you act like an ass and be your designated driver at the end of the evening. That's not appealing to me.

heard US hardware chain described as such by an elderly brit.
is this term still in use? and not for some sort of lonely street vendor, but a large store/chain like this? watch a lot of britcoms and i can't recall ever hearing the term. including in the be all and end all of hardware skits.... |

Fork handles were just replacement handles. Very important back then but, since the throwaway culture kicked in, you just buy a new garden fork.

we do say "pitchforks" in the states, but i've never heard anyone abbreviate it to "fork". maybe some farmers somewhere.
rest of skit is brilliant! but how about answering the question. do u call a store like that an "iron monger"? let alone a big/multibranch one? (not sure the UK equiv of lowe's/home depot these days) |
