I've always thought the notion that "Anything can happen in an MMA fight" was a bit silly but if Silva and Hunt can survive a 5-round fight, I suppose it truly can.

Yeah Lavigne should have stopped that much earlier. When a guy with as much killer instinct as Diaz is looking for the ref to step in you know you've got a late stoppage on your hands. For the record, that is how you finish somebody with stand up, powerful but accurate strikes, over and over until it is over. Seen too many fighters lately winning on the feet, rock the other guy and then rush in all sloppy, end up on the ground unable to finish...smh, they need to look at how Diaz did it here.

Yeah. Liked the Diaz fight and there were a couple of moments that showed both fighters jits skills. Diaz had an absolute peach of a throw. Got me all revved up - but then he had to go and knock Gray's lights out. Oh well.

Remember, those on the show are all new, even those with professional fights under their belt, they're still new to the UFC so they all, male and female, have much room for improvement. Though I've only had regular UFC events for just over a year - I have seen six TUF series. Promise you this one wasn't even close to "the best ever".

I don't mean to be critical of the women. I have huge respect for them and think their inclusion is great for the sport. Nevertheless, it is early days for women in the sport and I'll bet you will see huge improvements in skills, fitness and intensity over the next few years. I cringe to think how most of the women on the TUF series would fare against Rousey - or Tate for that matter.

Still - big props to the women.

As for her being bad for the sport, having no sportsmanship or the rivalry being fake...you've not been paying attention. She treats no other opponent like that, only Miesha gets that treatment and it only intensified to that level of animosity when they were forced to be in such close proximity for a prolonged period. Look it up, google or youtube search (same difference nowadays right?) "Liz Carmouche TUF 18" and you will see an example of the esteem Ronda holds for her fellow female combatants...that aren't named Miesha Tate.
Read some of the TUF 18 blogs, Ronda was determined to prove to her team, the other fighters and everyone watching that the "...fight before the fight.", making weight, is first and foremost in the mind. After Gutierrez left, she went into the sauna for like 4 hours. The next day she went to the coaches challenge, won and went back to the sauna until weigh-in time. She cut from 152lbs to 135lbs in one day just to inspire...not good for the sport? Really?
Miesha Tate's camera-friendly persona is questionable, many female fighters have repeatedly said she is quite rude and even offensive when she thinks no one is watching and the whole thing with the pre-fight elbow to Cat Zingano...I don't think I'd be shaking hands with her either. The thing is though, I don't know either woman, so I wont be forming fully-fleshed out opinions of either one based solely on a few hours of selectively edited video footage.

All in all a good finale to a good season. Tomorrows fight night looks like it'll be good as well so looking forward to that. Talk to you after that card.

Well now - I never said the rivalry was a fake.

I have nothing against rivalries - they are good for the sport. What weirds me out is the level of hate. I mean what do you have to do to earn that level of hatred. As far as I know it all stems from a few indescreet tweets made by Tate and her boyfriend. Really!!!! You're going to get that upset over a few throw away comments on twitter???? It's bizarre IMO.

Not shaking hands - while not sportsmanlike - I can just about take. But constantly flipping an individual off looking like a bulldog with a mouthfull of bees is unacceptable behaviour. I'm not impressed with Ronda's epic in the sauna to show how its done after the fact. She would have been better off sitting on Gutierrez the week before the fight to make sure he made weight.

I'm not really a Tate fan either. She's not exactly overflowing with maturity. There was that incident in the Vegas hotel where Tate got all frothy because Rousey was standing next to her boyfriend. Give me a break - reminiscent of my school days.

Sportsmanship means a lot to me. Unfortunately my main memory of this TUF series will be a bitchy, sour faced, mean mugging, finger flipping Rousey. At least Tate had the grace to smile her way through series, sincere or not as that may have been.

Understatement right there Please, spectacular card and fight, those two went at it! The striking of both, the wrestling/grappling of Hunt, the kick-game of Silva and the absolute heart of both...wow.

Agree about the venue as well, the crowd was live, the fights were live, that ring girl...dayum! She should be at every event. What stuck in my mind though, who was that one ref and why did everyone keep booing him? Was he the one that gave that boderline premature stoppage? Anyway, I like what he said each round after asking each fighter if they were ready, "Alright let's smash it up!"

Agreed. Great card.

Mizugaki V. Nam Phan was fight of the night for me. I'm a big Mizugaki fan and he was at his relentless best on the night.

Correia V. Kedzie is one of the best womens fights I've seen so far. Very close fight. I called it for Kedzie even though Correia won.

Pity Dylan Andrews dislocated his shoulder. The fight with Clint Hester was working into a barn stormer.

Palleli was abslutely brutal, though I was quite impressed by Barry up to the point where he got taken down.

I didn't really enjoy the Bader Perosh fight. It was just too brutal and one sided.

Shogun Hua V. James Tehuna. One word only - BANG!!!

Hunt V. Bigfoot was just epic. Like watching a couple of Terminators going at it to the death. Concrete heads.

LOL!!! Yeah, the Aussies were giving that ref a hard time. I think it was because he stopped the Scoggins/Vaculik fight and awarded the TKO to Scoggins. As Vaculik is an Aussie the crowd weren't overly pleased. It was funny though.

And they were a good crowd. They gave great applause for the non-Aus fighters when they won, and were totally involved in the fights.

"that ring girl" is Kahily Blundel. I might just get a chance to upload some of her best ring moments in the next week or so.

On a more positive note, that Hunt/Bigfoot fight was a great fight. Super heavies are not supposed to have that much action. That fight has to be on the short-list for fight of the year.
