I think Katheryn Winnick was a fan favorite for that role. I liked her too. I think she didn't get it because Disney thought she was too old. Even though they did give Iron Man to RDJ when he was older.

But it should be noted that the online hate campaign was more anti-Brie Larson than pro anyone else.
