It's only a specific kind of death metal, namely brutal death and its respective sub-genres. The rest of death metal rarely dabbles in gorey subject matter and adopts themes ranging from satanism, history/mythology and, among melodic death metal bands and such ilk, social and life issues. The whole gorey lyrical stuff, especially the abundance of medical terms, stems from the classic band Carcass. They're the first, if I recall, to study dictionaries looking for song titles and that later caught on with almost every brutal death metal band since

There has been an abundance just lately, indeed. It's more of a competition among the bands themselves as to who has the sickest, though that mark is generally met when bands put genuine snuff photos on their covers. I don't like that in the slightest. Stemming from Cannibal Corpse, it was all about fiction. Horror films turned into songs and albums. When you start throwing on actual, real cases, however, then it's taken too far in my mind.

Belarusian slam death metal. Pretty much completely devoid of any alien influences like tech death or deathcore. Just straight up, 100% unrefined slam riffage, just how I like the genre.

Slightly less sick cover art for a change, though I'll still use a thumb nail for it, as I will for any graphic covers in the future.
