I watched VHS porn back when it started in the 80s and never heard of that happening. But then again, I rarely bought tapes, I mostly rented. I usually only bought compilation of my favorites (Deleeuw, Cousteau, etc), but never through the mail. But every tape I bought from a store was pretty much as advertised.

It should be possible to create pornography while treating the men and women in the industry decently. While pay is a significant issue, a lot of the issues could be mitigated by the people who produce porn caring about the people involved rather than just seeing them as a product to be sold.
