![]() Insatanity - Divine Decomposition (1996) Death metal with a sarcophagus/crypt-like atmosphere. The guitars, laden with catchy old-school riffs, sound as if they were recorded inside a dusty coffin. The drums alternate between blasts and groovy, pounding doom beats. The vocals transition between guttural, deep-as-the-grand-canyon growls and more vicious, ripping screams. Yeah.. I'm somewhat of a fanboy of this album. ![]()

![]() Various Artists - Holy Dio: A Tribute To Ronnie James Dio (Heavy/Trad/Power Metal) Year: 2000 ![]() Featuring awesome covers of Dio-era Sabbath, Rainbow, and Dio songs, by the likes of Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, HammerFall, Primal Fear, Solitude Aeturnus, and more. And I won't lie - more than a few manly tears were shed listening to Angel Dust's take on "Temple Of The King". ![]() |

![]() They're actually doing another Dio tribute album now, though the line-up isn't impressive in the slightest. Well, Lemmy's on there, but I don't think he's doing any vocals. Beyond that.. ugh. Not really a fan of tribute albums, but at least the 2000 one has appropriate bands featured.

I always preferred Bathory's epic albums to the black or thrash albums, and both Nordland records sit right next to Hammerheart as being brilliantly awesome and some of the finest work of the style that has since influenced countless bands all over Europe. The production has a cold, crystal-clear water like sound to it, that compliments the natural, landscape lyrical content well. The guitar melodies are absolutely glorious, and Quorthon's best in my opinion. Also, this was his most refined and polished clean vocal performance. Hail Quorthon, indeed.
