What I want to know is why stuff originally on VHS tape gets converted and posted here and there with incredibly low resolution. True that one cannot make something with higher resolution than the source material, but why drop it by a factor of five or ten or more?? That said, or asked rhetorically, I for sure prefer HD to a point. The bigger the better for the most part, but at too high a resolution the scrubber works poorly or not at all sometimes, and maybe some other problems from clip to clip. Anything above 1080p seems to be overkill at least for my playback devices. Or one might say the 1.8GB version would be cool, especially if a personal favorite actress is in it, but often the 720p is fine and less of a drain on harddrive space.

It's 2016, standard definition video is unwatchable now. I don't know why paysites continue to produce new scenes in SD, the lowest resolution they should be providing at this point is 720p.

In most cases it's because the person doing the conversion just uses the default settings of which ever encoder they use, either because they don't know any better or because they can't be bothered to customise the settings to retain the original resolution.

HD is preferred. I'd love to have seen more of Chloe Nicole in HD quality.

4K scenes could be interesting in the future but I wonder if there's as big a difference between that and HD as there is between SD and HD.

This raises various pro and con issues.

Pro:
The image and sound quality is undeniably superior when a video file is played in true HD.

Con:
A true HD file is very large (1 gig or more), so downloading it will take much longer.

Routinely downloading true HD files will eat up ones data allowance in no time, meaning that additional payments to the ISP may be required.

Building up a collection of true HD files will result in a greater need for storage media. This involves additional expense.

There is little point in downloading files of a resolution that is greater than the monitor/screen they will be viewed on.

In my opinion, downloading true HD files is only worth it with movies that have true cinematic value. In this case I then view them on my 42" plasma in my living room, not on my 24" screen on my computer.

In the balance of all this, porn, at least for me, doesn't yet fulfill all of my criteria and I will stick to standard DVD resolutions: 640x480 (4:3) and 720x480 (16:9).

When ISPs will offer unlimited downloads and high-bandwidth to all at no additional cost, then I may be persuaded to change my mind...

I am certain this could deserve its own thread but the basics I have come to understand are... it depends.

For porn I am going to say I doubt many will see much reason to go above 1080. Above that allows for bigger displays to look even better. Closer viewing will cause any advantage over 1080 to be moot. I don't know about the rest of you, but the majority of my porn viewing is not done on 60" screens or larger, and also I tend to be closer to the screen than I would for other movies or tv.

Which country do you live in dude - here in the UK, Unlimited BB is dirt cheap!

Even Unlimited Mobile Data on our phones isnt too expensive either!

I have no premium accounts and always watch on a 23'' monitor so SD is enough.

Ive accepted the fact that Im rarely going to watch Porn on my big screen TV... so dont need anything higher than 1080p, or even 720p to see a great picture on my PC

In fact, my fave way of watching Porn nowadays is on my Tablet, which is linked to my PC so can access my stash over WiFi... man I love technology lol!

For me storage is the main issue - so files of 1Gb or smaller are best... until they make a cheap 1000 TB Hard Drive!
