Do you mean to boot into DOS to stop "non-Microsoft" programs? I am too frightened that I might get a wrong program. Quote:
I tried "SilverLight" on one of my XP computers, which was needed for a screensaver that I had, but other than that computer, I have no interest in using it, again. I use Mozilla, Google Chrome was used, but after this problem, I cannot open any page. I never used IE. On previous Windows, I uninstalled it, but I cannot do that anymore. I like Opera, but it does not open any pages either. Mozilla is the only working browser. I do not trust any "NET" thing. I learned frightening things about it when "net" started. To add one more to your list of "who owns your computer," I do not use QT. I do not use the Windows FW because I do not trust software FW's . A hacker is already on my computer, if a software is blocking him. To add to that MS divulges all the "failures" of its programs, another reason to not use IE.

I looked though you Malware report and you had a Trojan C:\Windows\svcs.exe (Trojan.Downloader). I would run it again, and make sure you don't have anything in the report. But I'm confused about what your actual problem is... You can start in Safe Mode, but Normal Mode Locks Up.. On start up? When you watch a movie? When? If you have had to "Manually shut down" for several months, I assume holding power button down, I would suggest you run a chkdsk to make sure you haven't damaged your harddrive. Someone suggested CCleaner - http://piriform.com/CCLEANER Install it and run the Cleaner & register clean. |

To you it's bloatware but to others it's just needed for things to work properly. Quote:

Instead of using QT, I use a "similar" player, KMplayer because it does not automatically throw itself on my computer's task bar. I agree that some stuff is "bloatware" that we do not need, but sites require that "bloatware" so they can see what interests users.

I suggest and highly recommend you backup your files (if you have an external) and format your machine and have a "clean install", it will solve all your problems. And if you can't do that, then try restoring your PC to an earlier date, when it was working good. Also if you have the Windows repair disc that came with your desktop/laptop or if you made one yourself, use it, it will help you fix the corrupt files without the need to format and/or re-install Windows.

Restore is not working because the computer locks even before I log-into my profile. If I had a working CD ROM, then I could have F-Disked my laptop without having to ask in this thread. Oh geez, if I was a computer analyst, then maybe I could have thought of this before I started this thread. BTW, what is a "repair disc?" I never heard of one. You must have invented that logic. From the Re-Image software, "System restore and Windows Re-start Manager" keep crashing.

Or if it's a pre-installed OS you have tried to reinstall from the recovery partition. Though as a Computer Analyst I'm sure you knew all that.. |

The simple truth is that your computer probably has crap installed or a component is not working quite as well as it should. |

I am not looking to point fingers at anything

I went to computer school and it depends on the order in which programs are installed. It is a "trial & error" to determine the order because I could have the exact same programs all of your work and home computers have, but just 1 slight change in the order the programs were installed can mess up everything. I had a computer with Photo Shop, it worked okay, on my other computer, i could not get online, so I F-Disked my 2nd computer and the program that I installed after Photo Shop was the one that messed up my online service. It was a screen saver, so I did away with it. If you still believe that stores are honest, what about all the car recalls, what about all the baby-crib recalls. This Laptop has a CD-ROM, but it is for 3.5" CD's. It is not crap on my laptop, it is nothing that I installed and it is not my fault they shipped a broken computer that was waiting to fall-apart the day after warranty expired, it was Win 7 Updates that did not shut down properly that messed up my computer. Didn't I mention this earlier, if not then it is said. About that "WSUS" updater you use, is it known that everybody should install with them and not MS? I have neighbors, family, and friends that ask me for my opinions on what they should do because more often than not, it is a fake program that installed itself or a 3rd party program that stops the computer from correct boot-up. The main reason they ask me is because they would rather pay me a small amount than to go to Best Buy, pay $300.00 for the tech to say, "I cannot fix it" or to tell them to "re-install windows." I thought I said that "Win restarts" program crashes. MalWareBytes is the program I used that told me all the Windows programs that have crashed, but I still do not see how those "crashes" rewrote my Win 7 OS to not start properly. They were not "system programs," they were my video players.
