doesnt feature because i liked about 3 of their songs.Being a child born in 1966 they were not really on my radar when I started listening to music Rock n roll,Black dog & Stairway to heaven Van Halen has always been heavy Rock to me ever since I used to request JUMP in at discos in the 80s not withstanding the fact they have some heavy songs riff wise To me where the lines are blurred TODAY between metal & rock is the equipment constantly changing and getting louder & louder plus Being brought up when DJs only ever played AC/DC(You shook me all night long),Van Halen(Jump) and believe it or not led Zeppelins Rock N Roll. They all knew you wanted Deep Purple,Judas Priest,Black Sabbath etc so you kind of had this idea of where heavy rock ended and heavy metal started, rightly or wrongly Deep Purple - Burn live 1974 Montrose- Rock Candy As to why Metal Its loud, its aggressive and that combination makes you forget all the bad shit going on in the real world ESCAPISM in other words |

now i know in advance i'm going to get crucified for this. . . . in my honest opinion, the most influential band of all time, other than chuck berry, is metallica. . . . . "metal" or not they completely revolutionized the music landscape for my generation. . .

I've been listening heavy metal since childhood. (Thanks to my mother.)
There's always dispute who started heavy metal. If you listen the three rivals Black sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest it's very obvious. Led Zeppelin isn't and never was heavy band and early Judas Priest... just plain rock n' roll. Black Sabbath had their blues there but still... title track from the first album... what's heavier... I've laughed many times when I see some rock bands put in the metal section of record stores. According to some documentaries claim that Van Halen is heavy band... And Motörhead... Lemmy and the boys have repeatedly said that they play rock n' roll - with their style. |
