browser comparison

I am a loyal FF user, and don't hesitate to upgrade it whenever a new version is released.

I too have installed uBlock Origin, and it does a very good job of keeping the shit away from my machine.

I should also mention that I am a Mac user, so less subject to viruses and malaware, but one can never be to complacent about those threats.

On the whole, with this set up, I don't see myself abandoning FF as my main browser and can honestly say that all is A-OK with this browser.

on a good day, i have about 800k free.

i use CCleaner 5-6 times/HOUR, usually in desperation to get another 100k or so free so i can save a text file.

i agree with mysteryman that they're the cause of most of the problems.

IE to its credit only sticks 2 entries in there.
FF bloats to 10 or 15.
chrome, to my surprise, is that much WORSE -- i'm counting 27 right now.

if this is so easy to change in config, why isn't it locked down at "1" by default? what is the tradeoff here?

if they are "split", then shouldn't EACH ONE be fairly small?

my top entry in the task manager is like 280k for chrome -- which itself is the highest thing in there -- but then there's 26 more of them, ranging from 8k to 190k.

total somewhere around 2.8G...not exactly great on a PC with...um...3G of RAM....

oh nothing like hitting task manager and seeing 20 Opera's open. WTF. Even on an 8th Gen I5? it's freaking slower. But Chrome is worse. Takes about 40 seconds for it to open. On any computer. No clue why. It just sits there frozen for 40 seconds. So I use Chrome. True some claim FVD Speed Dial has malware in it (the google Search window, don't use it) but that one I ended up with because I was spoiled with Opera's speed dial... (Opera 12 and before) The Presto one. Not the Chromium one. Which I still use btw for the side bar info

Seriously I'd love to know... I have 35 running!! It's slow as molasses. I don't even use Chrome except when I need to go to Amazon France and they don't have an ENGLISH setting. Japan and Germany do. Although getting blu rays out of Germany right now during Covid is a pain in the ass!! and if I do it's expensive.


PS: if I see 8000k well it could be kelvin if it's in the lights area. but generally if I say 8k for instance it's 8000 I use this for Covid-19 numbers. 180k is easier to type out than 180,000

Chrome comes with a translate option that pops up tells me if I want it translated to English. Opera I might need a plugin. Could use my phone but that is a touch more complicated than it needs to be

so if i do reset that, will the 26 entries BELOW the 280k one just disappear, or will all 2.7G or so of them merge into ONE giant, equally unmanageable, task?
