Planetsuzy Problems - Please Panic Here!

Yes, this is a server-side issue. And howtogeek is correct in saying that you can't do anything about 502 errors. And yet, they provide "solutions". This is just clickbait.

I don't have enough information to confirm or deny your suspicion, but I'd go so far to say that I don't believe that this is accurate.

During certain times, 502 errors are part of PlanetSuzys normal operation. The connection between webserver and database is cut off during backups. If you connect during this time, the webserver tries to handle your request, but is unable to connect to the database. This is the textbook definition of a 502 error by the way, the server you're connecting to can't process your request because another server is unreachable.

Lately we're seeing some more 502 errors than usual. Unless our backup procedures have been changed, I suspect that some work is being done in our infrastructure which occasionally causes these errors. For example due to re-configuration or server load.

2. Why don't you separate the messages about this error into a separate topic, not the way it is now - abstractly.

if planet suzy's systems and forums and data and all that cant handle the number of users it gets without crashing, ALL THE TIME, why dont they get upgraded servers that can handle the amount of users? Gmail gets tens of millions of users daily, yet they dont crash every 5 seconds because to many people are using it, they can handle it, why cant this site?

Why should we even know this if it does not in any way affect the improvement of the site's performance?

First , even though you don't think so , Google makes millions of $$$ from their products , they own their own servers so they can afford to keep them running optimally and add more when needed.

Second, How many of us pay for Planet Suzie's service? how much money do you think Planet Suzie makes? ........... exactly ..... my Dad always said , never look a gift horse in the mouth. Someone else is footing the bill every month too keep this site free and ad free to boot so you can fill your porn fetish .... be grateful .

Why? There really is no point putting any effort into this. Not every user notices every post, thread, or announcement. So, no matter what you do, you'll get these messages anyway. As a courtesy, me and other staff members repeat ourselves from time to time, so that there's a least a chance that knowledge spreads.

You're missing the point. I specifically said that these errors MAY be attributed to work being done in our infrastructure, which in turn MAY increase server load. This is different from server load created by visiting users.

Nothing is "crashing". The very fact that you can see the 502 error means that nothing has crashed, because this error is served by the web server. That means the web server was indeed capable of handling your request, it just couldn't complete it because another server necessary to do so wasn't available.

Judging by how you've phrased your question, I can already tell that you don't know all that much about operating infrastructures, the difference between a web server, database server and mail server and the incomparability of apples and pears, I mean a multi gazillion dollar global tech company with 140k employees and PlanetSuzy.

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Me replying to posts regarding these problems is just a courtesy to let everyone know that we're aware of this. And while we can't do anything about this, the alternative would be saying nothing and that would also not be helpful.

Please note, everyone, that PlanetSuzy staff is equally affected by this. And I can tell you from first hand experience that moderating PlanetSuzy in this time is even harder than merely using it. But staff does not operate our infrastructure, so we can't do anything about this. This is a temporary problem and we, just like you, simply have to wait it out.

I'm just being "Captain Obvious" here... I have to confess that I'm simply complaining, but at this point I need a little ventilation.

So, here we go...

(Bit of background first).
I am not a particularly prolific poster anymore. I don't share a lot of "new" content, but I do post a decent amount of stuff that is "new" to the forum.

I use Depositfiles for a couple of reasons:

1. Well, I've been using it for a long time, so there's that.
2. The links tend to stay alive longer than most other links; or so it seems to me.
3. I sincerely think that it is a better "free" host than most others that are available here.

I guess that this is my round about way of saying that I don't post for "me" I post for the forum. So there's that.

Now to the point...

These errors are only mildly irritating when I'm just surfing the forum; but on the days that I actually set aside some time to share content the errors are extremely aggravating.

I am sure that when we do finally move on from vBulletin, there will be an uncomfortable learning curve for a while. I am certain that things will be better than they are now though.
