Charles Grodin, a versatile actor with a talent for wry humor and deadpan comedy who appeared on Broadway, starred in such films as “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Midnight Run” and the “Beethoven” comedies and was known for his cheeky appearances on TV talk shows, including his own, died May 18 at his home in Wilton, Conn. He was 86.

The cause was bone marrow cancer, said his son, Nicholas Grodin.

i have seen the ep, and he seems fine. one of the better hosts, in fact!

i have always wondered what this was all about. and whether the version in syndication is perhaps from dress rehearsal (what they do when the live night is ruined somehow).

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 18 - Italian music great Franco Battiato died early on Tuesday in his home in the Sicilian town of Milo, his family said.
The much-loved singer-songwriter was 76.
He was a multifaceted artist and his work spanned many genres, including pop, electronic music, rock and new wave.
Nicknamed the "Maestro", he represented Italy at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest with "I Treni di Tozeur" with the singer Alice, with whom he had a long-standing professional partnership. (ANSA).

Almost 20 years since Layne passed away......damn.
I remember hearing the news on MTV about his passing and it was definitely hard to swallow. He really let his depression eating him alive.
I was always hoping that he would've got clean and went back doing music, till his very last days.
Felt definitely very bad for him.

As for Kurt, I was only 5 he passed away. But I always felt bad for him as well.
If only he would got proper treatment for his stomach pains instead of self-medicate himself with Heroin, probably he would've still be with us doing music, or maybe commenting and ranting on Youtube about today's music and how bad the Kardashians sucks.

Anywho, these two will never ever be replaced by no one. And will always be remembered as rock legends.

I came across some tapes back in the 90's I guess, called Hard and Heavy. One part had Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell besides a swimming pool talking about their band and fielding a question or two. Layne said, "I just can't write a happy song." Dunno if it was there or somewhere else, but Jerry Cantrell said he went to a party and saw this guy with pink hair and a girl on both of his arms and said, "I want to meet this guy." Later, LS was managing a performance space for artists and let Jerry crash there. Jerry and his bandmates wanted Layne as a singer but he already had a gig. So they auditioned a bunch of bozos, and eventually Layne capitulated, and signed on. The rest is Alice in Chains history.

I just noticed pelham's post about Jim Steinman and even though the video doesn't work it is a sad loss. Bat Out Of Hell is one of my all time favorite albums and is pure genius from start to finish. I saw the stage version and was floored. We sang along like crazy people lol
