This card delivered. The Pineda fight (not recalling the other guys name at the moment, even though he won lol) was okay. They both gassed but at least kept at it best they could till the final bell.
I knew Steven Siler was good but damn! really didnt see that KO coming. McGregor/Hollaway was good man. Even though he was getting outstruck and out grappled, Hollaway stayed in it to win it. Any and every chance he got to fire back he took it but McGregor is just that dude, he's living up to the hype. Michael McDonald is a beast, I'll say again, he's a beast! Brad Pickket is no damn joke either and, as we saw, can take blows that would drop other guys no question. I'd really like to see McDonald get a few more fights, you know a little more experience and training under his belt and then the rematch with him and Barao, a damn good fight waiting to happen. I like Michael Johnson and he looked good but he was fighting a Joe Lauzon that did not show up that night, still, good for Johnson. I couldn't root for anyone in the Hall/Howard fight cause I'm a fan of both. That said, I'm glad to see Doomsday back with a win in the UFC. I swore up and down that the Brown/Pyle fight was gonna be fight of the night and then bam!!! That crazy sumbitch Brown goes and gets himself a KO of the night bonus LOL!! Uriah Faber...is another beast, I mean damn! You could tell from jump that Alcantrara was no joke and yet after that little bit of time he spent on top of Faber the whole rest of the fight he spent on his back eating elbows. They always talk about "crafty veterans" in the UFC but after watching Faber look at the monitor while Alcantara had his back so that he could better aim his punches at Alcantara's face....ROFLMAO!!!! That is some crafty veteran type shit for you. They should have a crafty veteran award for him just for that Nothing against Travis Browne but that fight seemed a little...odd. He was done, turtled up taking heavy, heavy shots offering no intelligent defense. The ref shoudlve stopped it like two or three times, then Overeem gets dropped and boom, the ref calls it, no two and three chances like he gave Browne. Just seemed a little odd to me. Hopefully Reem gets a chance to prove himself as he's had a rough ride in the UFC to date. I don't like Chael Sonnen's trash talk, some of it is funny but alot of it is too over the top for me, too much of an act I guess. One thing I like though, is how he conducts himself after a fight, win or lose. After the Jones fight he said something that made me respect the hell out of him. It was to the effect of "...you dont' have the right to celebrate your victories if you can't handle your defeats like a man." In this victory over Shogun, he was humble (in the post-fight press conference, not immediately after, calling out Wanderlei and threatening Joe Rogan) even going so far as to say it was almost luck that he got the guillotene that good, that early on before they were slippery and that he would have tapped if Shogun had gotten a guillotene that tight. Respect due. Missed the facebook fights but all in all a damn good card. Bring on Bendo v Pettis II!!! |

Lot of potentially good stuff coming up over the next few weeks. Including the new season of TUF which I'm looking forward to. |

Overeem is a beast but has a bad combination of being TOO cocky & having a a glass chin. Lol "glass chin" would be a compliment for The Reem, more like butter chin.

-Pettis/Henderson: Should be a war in which I hope Pettis knocks Benson's block off. -Barnett/Mir: I'm hoping this goes to the ground to see who wins the grappling war but I see Barnett keeping it up either winning by decision or late KO. -Mendes/Guida: FAST PACED ACTION! This fight should be nonstop fun but the way Guida has fought recently shows he only shows otherwise. Mendes via a close decision. -Rothwell/Vera: It's good to see Vera back at the weight class he belongs in and made a name for himself at. I think Vera's speed and striking should be the key factors for him in this fight and should lead to a decision for him. -Koch/Poirier: Another lightweight match that should be a lot of fun to watch. Erik should be able to pull this off. |

..."butter chin". Yeah, Reem needs to get hold of that attitude, although he seems to have after the Silva loss, and get his footwork and cardio up to speed. He was visibly tired after blasting away at Browne like that and just wading forward, taking kick after kick, until...boom THe 164 lineup does indeed look good. Pettis is no kind of joke but I just dont think he's going to be able to do it a second time. Noone can accuse Benson of being a finisher (has he finished anybody since coming over to the UFC?) but...he keeps on winning and I think it will be the same this time around. Mir needs a win man so I guess I'm rooting for him. He looked good (physically) last fight but just didn't do too much, if he comes in as fit/trained as he did last time and brings some fire/urgency I think he's got the skills to make it happen. I dont' think this will go to decision unless Clay runs away again, if he actually fights....man, Mendes will fucking destroy him. I like Clay Guida but I think Chad Mendes is a cut above him and most everyone else at featherweight. I like Big Ben and I like Vera so one more fight where I dont know who to root for, should be a good one though. Poirier and Koch...jesus, that might be a fight of the night candidate right there. |

Just finished watching Wednesday's fight night. Not as good as the previous one - but some good fights nevertheless. Really enjoyed Takeya Misugaki's win, and Condit really showed what he is made of.
Mir V. Barnett, and then Henderson V. Pettis tomorrow, Teixeira V. Bader next Thursday and also the start of the Rousey Tate TUF season. Damn - I'm worn out just thinking about it. |

Yeah man, I liked Wednesdays card. Kelvin Gastellum still undefeated. This new kid Thatch is a beast, some very good striking on display from him. Some good submissons and good fights all around. I knew Condit had this one even though Kampmann got the takedowns early. As soon as Condit started stuffing those and let loose with his striking...over.
Tonight's the night, Bendo/Pettis. Looking forward to Mir/Barnett also, looks to be a good card all around though. Teixiera/Bader? Is that the next fight night? Do we really think Bader stands a chance, no knock on him but...it's Teixiera. You got me amped now for TUF man, I watched the promos again and got all excited. I'm amped for the show but I really want to see the fight, patience...patience. |

BTW You reminded me - the young Gastellum was really impressive. He seems to be very calm and looks like he could be a future champ. It's hard to believe that he was the last picked by the TUF coaches. I got asked who my picks for tonights fight would be. I think it will go as follows Guida V. Mendses - Guida Mir V. Barnett - I think is a 50/50 fight. Don't like either of them but have a grudging respect for Mir - so I hope he does the business. Henderson V. Pettis - Henderson Don't know enough about the other main card fighters to make any kind of prediction. I probably won't get back to this thread for several days. Normally I record both prelims and main card and watch them over a few days. So I'll be avoiding all UFC related news. In the meantime feel free to post derisive comments about my picks. |

Great card as expected. Very happy Pettis won the title and hopefully he will get a chance to fight Aldo in a superfight. Barnett returns to the UFC to get a win I expected. Guida gets finished...YAY!I thought Vera would be able to pull it off but its just not there anymore. Great card and can't wait for the future!
