Sure, I understand wanting to get users to be generous with the "thanks" button, but if you thank every damned thing you see, it kind of loses its value, don't you think? I'm a relative noob here, but it seems to me that thanks should be reserved for noteworthy or thought-provoking posts.

You're not going to convince him otherwise, and I for one support his encouragement for users to thank posts and I always have. It's not about beefing up your stats or giving the thanks button value, it's about giving something back to users who put out some effort in their posts. It doesn't have to be the most thought-provoking thing you've ever seen, and you don't necessarily even have to agree with the discussion posts you thank. You just have to thank people for speaking their minds, and in the content sections, for taking the time to upload the clips and sets that they thought were good and keeping them from passing into obscurity.

And as AEKara said, nobodyserio has been thanked over 2000 times. Regardless of these users' reasons for that, he has given nothing back to them. Even by the narrow standards of only thanking posts that are thought-provoking or noteworthy, 10 thanks is nothing.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the system. It's important to understand the culture of a forum, and for some of us noobs who have been long-time members of other forums it takes a bit of time to assimilate. It's nice to see the "unspoken" rules actually spoken

No worries Baixiong. This is a fun thread of the forum where members may add a bit of personality to the forum. The "Thanks" and "Rep" buttons are an important part of a forum. We thank content posts even if we don't download them. It's the effort and participation we thank for building one of the best forums on the net. Same goes for discussion posts even if you don't agree. Someone has taken time to post something you read, listen to, look at or watch.
