I'm not really pumped for a Ziggler/Morrison feud...he was just the first guy that came to mind..haha. I'd like to see Ziggler in a feud with Bourne, the way Bourne sells moves, it would be pretty sweet. I wish they wouldn't have turned Mason Ryan face for this run. A stable under Vicki with him, Ziggler and Swagger? Perfection. I'm a pretty big "mark" for Ziggler too...but really, to be honest, I just like wrestlers who can put on good matches and are good on the mic too. That's why I like guys like Ziggler and CM Punk. I don't like big muscled up guys because most of them are very limited in what they can do in the ring.

McMahon needs to put back dignity into his business.
First to go should be Cole and Booker. He needs to get announcers that speak correctly. He should be a "high class" billionaire that has employees and himself to NOT sound like hillbillies.
Second, he needs wrestlers that wrestle with pride, instead of wrestlers to get tattoos. In the past, tribes would do that to scare opponents, but we are not savages anymore. Bring pride to work and wrestle without looking like an artist's canvas. Why are they All talking like uneducated people? I thought "upper-class" people talked with an aristocratic attitude. I would expect that uneducated-talk from a 3rd world athlete like ADR.

Won't disagree with anything said about Ziggler on here. He's tremendous.
I completely agree about how abysmal the commentary is nowadays. Get on Youtube and watch any recent episode of Superstars. They actually talk about the matches and provide insightful color. Yes, they do occasionally diverge to touch on whatever major storylines are going on at the time, but in general, the whole feel of it is 1000% times better than what you'd get on Raw or Smackdown. If the goal is to have Michael Cole be a heel announcer, they've failed miserably. MISERABLY! Somebody get that schmuck a Bobby Heenan DVD and possibly a Jesse Ventura tape while they're at it. He's so fucking annoying, and not annoying in a good way for a heel (ala Vickie Guerrero). And Booker T is just crap. We all know Stevie Ray was the best commentator out of Harlem Heat... |

now it means nothing at all. It's just another match and nothing special about it . I have to eat my hat again by the way. Dolph Ziggler has impressed me lately. Not long ago I wouldn't have said a good word about him but not anymore. Looks like Mason Ryan is about to be pushed . wise decision to make him a fan favourite in my book. I wont say anything about Michael Cole. The rest of you have it spot on . |

I thought The Structure they keep mentioning was a Terror just to see. Now, it is just a meaningless paper-weight. I thought less and less of Cole when he was a lousy announcer on that amateur series and he walked out on them because of his "journalistic-pride."

I don't think it's a fact of that WWE has "sanitized" things, I just think that most fans are just getting too finicky(sp?). Not that I'm saying that the fans should just take whatever they are given and be happy with it, but a lot of people think they are gonna get a 5 star match, amazing promos and blockbuster storylines every show. Fact of the matter is that that just isn't going to happen. I prefer to look at the positives of every show I watch and not dwell some much on what is "shitty". If that's how a fan is gonna look at it, might as well just turn it off and watch The Bachelor or some shit. And the fact that matches like Hell In A Cell aren't the same...it's just the evolution of the match. I remember the first two HIAC matches, there was no weapons used at all...just the Cell itself. Now, they've introduced the use of weapons in the match...just the way things evolve.

Here's the thing - I think the shows do generally suck nowadays. They have for a long time. You might see a flash of brilliance every now and then. The Orton/Christian matches, Dolph Ziggler showing us he's got the stuff to be top dog someday (hopefully sooner rather than later), Mark Henry turning into a compelling monster heel. Very rarely you get something amazing and groundbreaking - CM Punk shooting on the company and leaving with the WWE Title... but of course, it didn't take them long at all to shoot themselves in the foot and dilute and distort their hottest angle in years into a clusterfuck by bringing in Nash and more or less transitioning everything so that Triple H is the main face fighting the 'conspiracy'. If you'll remember, they shot themselves in the foot with the molten hot Nexus angle last year too. There's no competition anymore, so there's nothing driving the company, nothing challenging them. During the Monday Night Wars it was compelling stuff, even if the matches weren't always up to par and you occasionally had stupid angles on either Raw or Nitro (thanks Russo!). The reason it was compelling was that you never knew what to expect next. What crazy stunt is this show going to pull out of its ass this week to drive up their ratings? Who's gonna jump from WCW to WWE, or WWE or WCW? Who have they stolen from ECW this week? Things like that. I don't think the problem is necessarily the PG era that we're currently mired in. Go back further than the Monday Night Wars to the 80's/early 90's when you also had what was essentially a PG product and you still have compelling wrestling shows from the WWE. I recently watched an old episode of Prime Time Wrestling from 1988 and it featured a match between two lower card guys they never pushed at all - Terry Taylor as the Red Rooster vs. Koko B. Ware. AND IT WAS AWESOME! They let these two guys beat the hell out of each other for twenty solid minutes and the match went to a time limit draw. You would NEVER get two guys in the lower midcard wrestling for that length of time nowadays, and even if you did, it would probably be a shockingly bad match because the young guys they currently have in the undercard just don't have the proper training to work anything but a two minute spot-fest. I blame the death of the territories, but that's a completely different discussion. On top of that, guys can't cut promos anymore, which hurts the show overall and stunts the development of these young guys. The talent being forced to follow the mandated stupid-ass scripts handed to them by the ace writing team instead of ad-libbing doesn't help them any either. Wrestling is a soap opera, and you need your fair share of talkers to really hook your viewers. In years past we had the likes of the Rock, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, hell, even insane Macho Man promos were great to watch. Nowadays there's but a few guys who can talk, can really get the crowd to hate them if they're a heel or get the crowd behind them if they're a face. I'll give credit to Ziggles, Christian, Awesome Truth, Cena, and CM Punk and that's about it (Otunga shows glimpses, and Ryder could possibly make this list if they'd allow him to completely do his Youtube act on TV, which they won't). As much as I like some of those guys, they don't measure up to the talent of yesteryear in the mic skills department. Not by a long shot. I think what's happened with older fans is they've fallen into one of two groups. Fans like Colin_Work who can look upon the positives, the kind of fans who can accept the product's evolution and don't mind the changes that have been made over the years, and then there's the bitter a-holes like me, the kind of fans who don't generally like what they're seeing all that much but, seeing as how they've been watching pro wrestling since they were little kids, have little choice but to stick with it because they've been hooked. Cradle to the grave. Oh, sure, there are alternatives out there. Ring of Honor just had their first show on their new television deal. There's TNA (or Impact Wrestling), but as the Miz would say... really? Really? That's an unwatchable clusterfuck. You may turn to lucha libre, CMLL and AAA are still kicking it, or you may import some stuff from Japan - but you always end up back at the WWE. It's the major leagues of wrestling. And I remember a time when it was really, really good and fun to watch and we had WWE ice cream bars. I hold on to that, and I still hold out hope that someday it can get back to its former glory and surpass it. Annnd.... imma end this now because it's turning into a rant. Didn't intend for that to happen when I first hit the reply button... |

Finally, Khali is in a real match; although he is past his prime, too slow. I was tired of his fighting his brother-in-law. he needs a match, but they threw him into a deadly match.

Awesome post, Rhino...I agree with everything you said. That is the state of pro wrestling these days. I totally agree with you that the loss of the territory system did away with any real competition between companies, even the demise of WCW and in a lesser way, ECW. TNA I think, will never be any competition for WWE at all. Their brand is so full of horse shit that it's almost unwatchable. Great wrestlers, but poor execution. Myself personally, I"m gonna be 33 this December and I've been watching and living wrestling since I was 10 years old. If I wanna relive the so called glory days of wrestling, I have DVD's and the internet and until something amazing happens like TNA gets their heads out of their asses or ROH gets more exposure like they seriously need, all I have is WWE and I can make due with what I have because theirs gonna come a time where there is no wrestling companies to complain about.
