It has subtitles feature included in a separate .ass (don't laugh) file, with nasty words and beautiful effects such as transparency and fade out. .ass stands for Advanced SubStation (Alpha), it's based on .ssa, which stands for SubStation Alpha, an other subtitles file format, but has more functionalities, such as: Can define the text for underline, strikeout, border width and shadow depth (only available in styles before), blurred edges, font scaling in the x and y axis, define spacing between letters, rotation of text, outline and shadow colors (only available in styles before), and alpha transparency. Huge assortment of functions which allow for the font to be transformed over time through styles or override codes, movable text, exact pixel positioning, define the origin of text, and fading. Karaoke is rebuffed, somehow (wohoooo pornoraoke !!!!) Styles are updated for the new options I've discovered .ass last night, you can modify the .ass file with a simple text editor to make translation/different effects, etc. It's a great format. I could have choose .ssa... But I felt .ass extension was more suited to the project. Anyway, for those who are not familiar with subtitles, open the video file with VLC and make sure the .ass is located in the video's folder. VLC will launch the subtitles file automatically since both video and subtitles files have the same name. Enjoy. Edit: Subs work fine with VLC, bugged with QuickTime. |
