The original song that gave rise to what we now know as the "Disco" sound.
From the Summer of 1973 on, this song was played at every block party in USA cities. If you have the original record, its worth good $$$$ Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa (released in 1972)

I know he has been hailed as an inspiration for disco and more, though I tend to think that's stretching it a bit despite those who acknowledged his influence (and one who tried to rip him off ... you know who you are Michael Jackson!). But, obituaries tend to inflate reputations and influence IMHO. RIP Mr Dibango. Really great music. |
