Metallica / Whiskey In The jar
(original: Dubliners, 1967) I don't get metal, but I do get talent ... and this is redolent of talent. It outshines Thin Lizzy's disco beat IMHO. |

Not really, Irish people have sung this song for 300+ years already. The Metallica version appears to be directly derived from Thin Lizzy's, judging by the lyrics.
Quote:
Speaking of Thin Lizzy, the version of Rosalie from Live and Dangerous is my favorite Lizzy song, the original being from Bob Seger. |

yeah, +1 on the comments about thin lizzy. never heard of them, but i just listened to both versions of whiskey, and theirs is waaaaaaay better. i hear nothing disco in there.
whereas, metallica's is...hmmm. always thought they were a "metal" band? sound more like those bland whitebread rockers like eddie money and bryan adams. not for me. to be fair, tho, TL also sound like that in that dreadful "boys are back" song. never knew who sang that, and never cared. i thank you both for prodding me to look past that one and give whiskey a listen! great song. i guess they were kind of hit or miss. |

your "case" said their version of whiskey was inferior to metallica, which u definitely have not "made".
is this song wildly diff from M's usual style? like kiss' beth or the stones' angie? it's not at all how i thought M sounded; i honestly do not see how anyone could call them "metal" or "hard rock" from that clip; for starters, TL's version sounds harder! (and better, just overall) i will give M credit, tho, they certainly do know how to fill a house with women! what's the count in that video? |

I'm a huge fan of the British blues group The Groundhogs. But I have to admit that San Diego acid rock Earthless do a cover that least equals the original fuzztone freak out, "Cherry Red." (and maybe on some days, is a bit better) I've heard a ton of covers out there... and most are lame. But this one is dope!
