I didn't see it that way: as a filler episode. And I complain about filler episodes all the time. The board is being set, the players introduced. I don't think this is going to be a straightforward good guys bad guys.

I will say I thought Commodore outranked Admiral and that does make a difference as to how I view what was going on in that meeting.....

It has been stated that the first 3 episodes are slow paced; maybe I expected what we are getting. The rest of the episodes, as far as I know, haven't been presented for preview to reviewers so no idea what to expect.

Star Trek: Picard’s Premiere Sets Record for CBS All Access

Star Trek: Picard is now the record-holder as the service’s most-watched premiere ever! The news comes as CBS All Access reports a record month of subscriber sign-ups. These numbers are clearly no joke! The launch of Star Trek: Picard drew the largest number of unique viewers and streams ever for a CBS All Access series premiere. “Make it so, Number One!”

The streamer confirmed that Star Trek: Picard bested the previous record set by Star Trek: Discovery by a significant margin. From one Star Trek show to another! The Patrick Stewart-led series had 115% more total streams and an 180% increased subscriber streaming volume than CBS All Access' first foray into Star Trek originals.

The streaming service did not disclose the number of total viewers for Star Trek: Picard’s premiere. Hopefully, they are on their way! I think it is reasonable to think they could be quite stellar. In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see if the absence of Michael Dorn’s Worf and LeVar Burton’s Geordi is rectified in Season 2.

There is also the question of how Star Trek: Picard’s ratings will do as it continues its freshman season. Back when Star Trek: Discovery made its debut on CBS (the network), it brought in an impressive audience. Live+Same day numbers put the first two episodes as being in front of 9.6 million viewers with a 1.9 rating in the key demo. But, CBS All Access is in a whole other orbit.

However, Star Trek: Discovery’s initial debut and now Star Trek: Picard’s indicate that interest in the franchise clearly remains strong among prospective viewers. Expectations for Star Trek: Picard has been building for a while, which makes the premiere’s success a welcome (if expected) development.

Episode 3 of Picard was good. Folks online have complained that there is not enough action but I think they are doing a good job of world building. Laying the foundation of a potentially great series. I'm looking forward to next week.
