Usually the spiel from their Agent, Porn Producer, or Suitcase Pimp paints a much more different and glamorous picture and these girls that were the hottest girl in their small town in Nebraska or Wyoming fall for it.

My friend Channone was a very well known and Famous French Adult Star from the 90's, she started by doing soft modelling and really when she thinks back she realises how manipulative people were who enticed her into doing porn in the beginning. Well even in her quote she still sees it as money and fame but at a cost she don't wanna pay.

I would imagine there are more than a few fanbois over at ADT who have been placed on heavy meds or suicide watch over this news. They usually take this kind of news from one of their faves pretty hard.
