They have always just been pixels on the screen to me. Unless you actually knew them, in real life, they are just a fantasy. There are a lot more important things to feel guilty about.

I don't feel guilty at all.

Firstly, I find it very easy to separate the pornstar from the person. I don't wish to sound cruel, but I don't really care what the actress is like in real life, just like she doesn't give a fuck about me; I care about her ability to perform on camera. As such, what happens off-camera in her personal life is irrelevent to my enjoyment of a scene, and that includes her death. When a scene is recorded, she is forever immortalised by in her performance within it, and nothing non-porn related can alter my perception of that.

If you watch porn from the nineties or earlier you can find some great scenes, but even where the stars are still alive (which, of course, will be most of them), they'll be older, fatter and less attractive. That's a fact of aging. But I can watch a film from that era where some gorgeous young thing is writhing in ecstasy without constantly thinking of the fact that she's a chubby fifty year-old woman now.

Secondly, and linking in, at its very core I'm watching pixels on a screen. I am not watching that person any more than I am watching electrical signals generating light. That sounds facetious, but to me the distinction is an important one; for the purposes of pornography the only thing that matters is the scene itself. A good scene remains a good scene forever, regardless of what happens afterwards. Heck, if in the future people are able to digitally create pornography that's so realistic we can't tell the difference, then we'll still be watching it because, to us, it'll be the exact same thing.

Finally, I haven't stopped listening to The Who because Keith Moon is dead, or watching Hitchcock movies because he passed away. I care about the product, not the person, and even then I consider it a tribute to the creators; I'd like to think that if I created a product people enjoyed, they would still enjoy it after I died. A lot of pornstars are proud of their work, and so why wouldn't they want people to enjoy it after they've gone?

Now don't get me wrong, it is always sad when someone passes away. Those who were close to them will be rightly devastated at the loss of a loved one, but I don't know them. I know the pornstar, not the person, and the pornstar forever lives on in their work.
