According to this, in the 1950's Scotland was the second most common place of birth for anyone living in N.Z. and there are a lot of shared place names.

If it weren't for "the big freeze" in Scotland in 63 I think, where they got 8 feet of snow and cold, we wouldn't have ACDC.

Or at the least, not as we know them anyway. The brother's might have taken a different direction.

There was an immigration push and the family moved to Australia and the rest is history.

I believe I got most of that correct but others are free to correct me if I erred anywhere.

Yes, my dad has told me that he seriously considered taking up the offer of the £10* trip to Australia (the so-called Ten Pound Poms). I don't know whether I'm lucky or unlucky that he stayed here. At least we don't have poisonous spiders and earthquakes.


*apparently that is equivalent to over £400 now so maybe not the great bargain it sounds?

What is the obsession with white bread in NZ?

I watched part 2 of that Colbert trip there and Lucy Lawless and some other famous dude took him on a tour but they started with native delectables from the locals and they will cram anything into bread and call it yummy lol.

Oh ya, vegemite/marmite is NOT food. Yuck.

I laughed when Steven joked "you haven't progressed to buns yet I see". Even the PM served up buttered bread with sausages in that 1st segment.
