Do you use Comcast/xfinity? i do, and they have a link where you can test your computers speed, just google xfinity speed test or Comcast and its the first or 2nd link, 2 icons will pop up that look like clocks and will test and give you the results.

also like i said if you dont mind having another program, get yourself the free version of Malwarebytes that way if anything crops up in your system thats not a virus, it will remove it, like a dead link, bad webpage malware etc.

As noted above, the issue with the laptop is a fluke. You could likely reinstall the newest version and it would work just fine.
ISP speed testing, and all the usual benchmark testing should be unaffected by the AV software. As to the problems you noted with the laptop, that would all have to be manually tested using a stopwatch. |

You could disable McAfee and reboot your PC to see if there's a difference without uninstalling it. Use msconfig to disable any of it's start-up entries and services.
Avast is the best free AV. I think it's dangerous to surf the net without one. You can visit legitimate and still get infected. And the same goes to software. Remember CCleaner. Better safe than sorry. Of course, they can't detect everything (zero day). Not running an AV, is like using Windows 7 with no patches. But to each his own |
