What bothers me about the future of PS is this "cloud" lark, it's never going to be as good online, it's just too much to do via a web interface.

Yeah, you got a point there, I was just thinking about it. Cloud kills it totally and lot of Photoshop gurus are going red flags over it. Adobe just wants to control their users and I think that the cloud project isn't going to work and it will fade away along with Creative Cloud (failed thing also in my opinion). I don't see it as the next big thing. They shot themselves in the foot like MS did with Xbox One (and I haven't even written a blog about it yet).
You should see the comments when they announced it on Facebook and many were already saying "Death for your product". Cloud is pointless, consumer don't own anything through it, it's just a digital piece of shit in some server, what happens if it crashes. It's the same with video games, do you want a physical disc or a cloud based digital product, I don't think so. God damn, i'm already heading towards a Xbox rant, am I |

This Creative Cloud thing is an attempt by Adobe to combat piracy. I use Photoshop 6, and it's a pirated copy.
I would even consider paying for it, but no way I'm paying £17.58 per month: I use it for fun, not for work. Also, suppose if I was a graphic designer working on a tight schedule and with the delivery deadline approaching and my internet suddenly goes down (it happens to us all from time to time)? The client would definitively not be impressed if I turn up at the presentation with unfinished work: my brother is a professional graphic designer/art director at a major advertizing agency, and he sometimes works nights and over the weekend to complete assignments: he's sticking with CS 6...

Also lets say you have a 200MB PSD, most internet connections have 1Mbit upload, it would take hours to upload to edit.
Stupidest idea ever, you need CPU power to do the best effects anyway!

Also you're right - the average Internet user of today would probably still be stuck with a limited upload speed, so Adobe have really hit a snag with that. Luckily I don't have that problem any more...

Basically, Adobe's 'Creative Cloud' is not there to enhance user experience, but quite simply to squeeze them like lemons for their cash.

Of course - Like M Byson says. It's always been the plan, squeeze your poor clients. When I watched some Adobe ads, everything is good and whimsical, but they never speak about the darker side, like never.
My biggest PSD has been 2GB and already on a computer it's sometimes hard to work if you have many loose layers and effects. Also it depends in what DPI your working in, if all of this would be online, bye bye big PSD's and many layers of a digital painting. |

Wha? That's some internet connection you have there!
10GB, that can be a resource hog on the machine you're using.

But the files involved are absolutely HUGE, and this is how they do things: they keep every single layer from the very start, so they have Photoshop files that literally run into hundreds of PSD formatted layers: they never know when they might have to work their way backwards and retrieve a layer. The main issue is related to entrusting all of this to the Creative Cloud, and so far most image professional are weary of doing so.

I think a lot of people keep copies of their layers.
